I have studied 4 styles of Martial Arts over my 68 years. 4 Grand Champion Trophies. And many many Kumite Fights. All my training. Is to shut you down quickly and violently. My Body is My Weapon. 15 years ago or more. I started Aikido. And I’m so happy and glad I did. Changed everything. The Philosophy of Aikido. Is the same as The Doctrine of Jesus Christ. To Save our Fellow Man. Aikido is a nonviolent art to end a altercation that you shouldn’t be in in the first place. To concept that I have utilized in my daily life from Aikido. Shenogei/ Sabaki. Control and Execute. To start to finish. Control of my mind, control of my body. And most of all. Control of my spirit. Which controls everything. As a printing press operator. I had that in Japanese Writing above my press. I could not print anything with out controlling my press. And that is the true essence of Aikido. TO BE IN CONTROL AT ALL TIMES. IF YOUR NOT IN CONTROL OF YOYR LIFE. YOU CAN NOT EXECUTE PROPERLY IN YOUR LIFE. SO BEFORE YOU TRASH SOMETHING. AS SO MANY TRASH AKIDO. HUMBLE YOURSELF AND TRAIN IT. IT WILL GIVE YOU A PARADIGM SHIFT. AS IT DID ME. WHO POO POOED IT 30 YEARS AGO.

The sensei could improve this by around 40% - As in your description - "It will also teach you how to use the attacker’s momentum against them". He is doing every thing very well from what I can see. Change one small thing. Just "before/on rotating" his hand from, palm down to palm up, cut a little more back into his own centre - (he can do this with a small rotation of the hips). This brings his partners energy towards him. This will stretch/move his partners arm forward a small amount, leaving room for - when he slides/steps in, the attackers elbow will enter their own centre, at least moving or unballancing the person enough for controlling them. We can see this almost happen from 5:57 on No3, same aplies there on. It needs a little more entry, for total control of the attacker, which he can drop his vertical body-weight on-to also. After all the attacker is moving towards him so allow them to enter by a couple of inches, you’r controlling their centre anyway. This deep entry of the elbow alone Is enough to control an attacker.

Thanks so much for your detailed review and analysis. We will share your feedback with our Master. Please keep in mind that practiced martial arts for over 60 years and few adjustments are very natural to him. Considering this was a non challenging/ staged session to make a video your body position mentioned above did not occur automatically. In the case of a real attack he probably would have been able to adjust unnoticeably. Regardless comment from someone with knowledge and understanding of this are a very valuable and truly appreciated.

Total bullshit. Aikido is NOT passive, if you study how Ueshiba teach aikido you can see it was totally diffirent than modern aikido. You need to check Ueshibas book of his technicues, there is two book, full of pictures. You can see traditionl way to make tecniques if you watch videos of Morihiro Saito. Of course meaning of art is peace and not harming attacer (too much) but never passive. No wonder why aikido has poor reputation in realm of martial art. Many aikidokas want to just throw ki-balls and made cool and nice moves and throws in dojo but dont want to practise proper way, when you can beat our opponent then you can choose if you save him/her or not. This is not easy task and someone need to practise hard way if someone want to reach this level. It is true that aikido is not best way to practise sport, if you want to play hard games like boxing better practise boxing.

Anything that is a martial method, meaning martial arts of any sort require a registration when the advanced stage of training is reached. This essentially waives the self defense rights of the student. To reach advanced training and further without limit in any method/discipline specifically classified/defined and clearly presented as self defense is the only way to maintain the right to defend themselves. Advanced training is what truly prepared us to have a realistic chance to successfully defend ourselves against anyone, or better defined, unexpected violence. Don't be deceived by revisions of original laws.

I find a lot of self defense videos like this one irresponsible. Martial Arts like Aikido, Karate, Judo, etc, require extensive training and practice. It is not just a question of technique. One has to be able to use the technique on automatic pilot in what may be a life or death situation. The best advice is to avoid such situations and walk away. Videos like this encourage wannabe Bruce Lees to get hurt when the best course is to walk away.

@@PG2GPFitness Unfortunately a little knowledge can be dangerous and people often don't realize the time and training it takes to become proficient. Depending on the attacker's speed, force, body weight, age, and years of martial-arts or boxing background, Aikido has solutions, but it requires years of religious training. I get your argument. The majority of schools do not practice for chaotic street fights, but this does not imply that they are unaware of it when the time comes. Aidkio's concept is founded on peace.
