Противокорабельная ракета потопит корабль, если он будет стрелять так плохо. Я служил во флоте России. Мы попадали сразу в мишень. Первыми выстрелами. CIWS is the last line of missile defense, behind at least five different types of defensive missiles, depending on what you wanna count. Defeating large naval attacks made of tens or even hundreds of missiles at a time takes a multi-layered approach, but Phalanx is still useful for it's flexibility and low cost. It's pretty cheap compared to alternatives like SeaRAM, and it does okay against a wide range of targets.

Good example of just how hard it is to hit a pitching and rolling target that's constantly changing direction from a firing system that's pitching and rolling as well. It's incredibly hard...even with "automated" systems. Just imagine that, instead of a skiff, it's an anti-ship missile coming at oh...mach 2 or so. The speed of tech advancement is nuts...even since Desert Storm.
@MikeWalls78292 жыл бұрын
You'd think something that advanced could take the pitch of the boat into account, but it just seems to spray bullets in a rather inaccurate way, better used on larger targets the dinghy just gets missed over and over, I'm a bit disappointed
@drew65sep2 жыл бұрын
@@MikeWalls7829 yeah, I agree. One would think that the gyroscopes on those weapons would be accurate enough. It's obviously a lot harder than most of us think. But, the "hit" accuracy has improved immensely over the years. Downsized smart weapons and ammunition are improving quickly as well. Laser weapons are already in use...on a limited basis. Lol, as bad as I hate complex mathematics, I'd be pretty useless. So, such is best left for others.
@MikeWalls78292 жыл бұрын
@@drew65sep I don't think it's the barrel accuracy either cos you see it spraying in defined lines, I think the robot is just programmed to be spraying that way, it does what it's told... Lol ironically warships aren't very valuable compared to cargo ships. Cargo ships hold likely tens of thousands of tons of cargo, and while yeah, the warship is expensive, the country involved might even scuttle it before they'd allow themselves to be taken over.

@@xxhowisuxx Yeah a pirate wouldn't have much use for a warship like this. Sure the systems on board are pretty expensive, but you'll have a much harder time trying to sell those things than you would 10,000 tons of cargo in shipping containers. Plus these ships will put up a hell of a larger fight than a cargo vessel can. Then also the fact that with all the top secret info on these warships, the US Navy would stop at nothing to retrieve control of it back even if it required scuttling it.

While it's probably firing something to the extent of 30MM armor-piercing rounds it wouldn't actually be much of a threat to other warships, mostly due to the huge hull, and the fact that almost everything is actually designed to withstand missiles, making withstanding 30MM shells a bit easier.

There's a series of videos floating around here off a guy who kinda built one of these for home defense lol. He used an autococker paint ball gun mounted to a swivel base with a camera on it. He did a bunch a calibration videos where he'd peak out from behind the wall and would get pepperd with paintballs. Then he mounted it to the roof of his house and "stormed" his front yard with a Jeep. The thing lit him up. It was pretty awesome.
