I have the 5 II, as evident from the video, there is barely any post-processing, that we are used to seeing, to bring out the details and fix the dynamic range. The philosophy is that you're meant to do the post-processing yourself. The standard camera app sets the dials automatically, based on some predetermined conditions and parameters, just to get you consistent performance between any scenario. You either use the camera button to focus with half press and full press to take the photo. The software button automates the 2 step process. You have to be steady in shots with less light, tho... gets blurry with shaky hands. Imo Sony should have done a double approach: keep the Pro apps as is and let the normal app do post-processing automatically, like everybody else does. Because unless you've got the muscle memory and photography theory knowledge , you can't do quick shots, which is not convenient for everyday activities. Compared to the other flagships, the Xperia phones lack the convenience of the others for regular every day ease of use.
@nlu7354 жыл бұрын
Disagree, I have had both phones now, and have done some comparison, the Xperia 5 II and the pixel 5 have their own pros and cons on cameras, in most of scenarios, I prefer the Sony as more realistic and better than the pixel 5 with huge amount of detail, but in some rare scenarios say taking a photo through a dark room window, and the darkest (room) and the brightest bits (Sun) could be slightly better with the pixel 5, where you can find a little bit of more details. The review is very much biased.

I own a pixel 5, and I'm going to say, it's been a let down. The camera is good because of software and the hardware is garbage, if you get one you'll realize this with just using the phone a couple times. The phone is touted for an amazing battery with the 765 snapdragon, however it is slow in processing. A lot of reviewers said, "you won't notice the difference" that is a lie. I had an xperia 5 and an s20fe. Both ran smoother and gave far better media consumption experiences. Battery saver mode on the phone is a joke because the phone becomes choppy as hell once it's activated. If you get an Xperia 5 ii, it will demolish the pixel 5 in hardware, media consumption, and overall experience. I have the normal xperia 5 and I go back to it constantly now. If you get the pixel, the point and shoot camera does a great job most of the time, but processor killed the quality of this phone. Software is amazing, but google like to be cheap and the speakers are garbage. I got the pixel 5 for 450 an I still feel like I got ripped off. An I enjoyed this phone quite a lot in the beginning, but you can't ignore the issues forever. Google's hardware is the main issue

I'm glad I came across this post. I've owned the Pixel 5 and Pixel 3XL. I loved my Pixel 3XL, until the speakers on it, and speakerphone (on my wife's and mine) went out and we couldn't use them. I just want a really good phone again that does well, is fun to have, and is enjoyable. I'll miss the point and shoot abilities, but the day to day has really, really sucked for me and my wife. Constantly drops calls (on Verizon, in and near cities) and cuts it's own data off. Oh, and overheats and cuts off when taking videos. Honestly, the last phone I loved was my Moto Z Play. I don't know why, it was so simple a phone and it was easy to use. It was a beauty of a phone, but the camera was awful. I can't stand Samsung's and refuse Apple, so I am really wanting to try the Experia ii. Thanks again for writing about this and I hope my information helps someone else.

The Xperia 5ii is very good with the rear cameras. The ultrawide camera is excellent. It's just disappointing that they didn't put a better quality front camera on it!

I prefer the Sony, especially in low light. Pixel just looks like is cranking up the ISO. 7:11

It actually does that. If you use EV compensation in low light, it only affects ISO and never the shutter speed. On the normal mode, it then gets very noisy. The night mode cleans this up (and the astrophotography mode even more).

Pixel has more dynamic range, natural feel, lowlight performance. Sony oversharpens, overexposes, unnecessarily smoothes skin, but captures more detail (on rear camera).

The camera of Sony Is Same to a flagship Like S22 or Iphone 13 But the main problem here is Software. If you are about To put Pixel rom in sony Xperia it will give you much better photos i think but still Without the pixel rom it still have such Classy details in every pic and since Google pixel is only for camera you can get way better gaming and features in sony so yeah it is a good phone
@jaie25354 жыл бұрын
It looks like Sony give the operator more control to make great photos via the app and post production. Where Google give more control to their software to do it. So I reckon if have the time to play with settings/editing, Sony would be better. Or if you really wanna good point and shoot camera, then Pixel would be better
@joemctague44674 жыл бұрын
I think both cameras had misses. Sony's telephoto shots seemed off, Pixel 5 really good But I liked Sonys colors better in most situations. Night pics and video better for Sony too. I own pixel2 and love it. Not sure what I'll upgrade to.

It's a mixed bag from both phones to my opinion. Lack of computational photography /HDR / proper photo post-processing leads to very bad dynamic range and blown out highlights on Xperia 5 II. And that's very sad result for a nearly $1000 camera-focused flagship phone. I really like Xperia 5 II and I wish it was a bit like a Pixel in terms of camera system performance. Night shots without Night mode are remarkably good on Xperia. Selfie camera is rather a piece of junk there though.

Me personally liked some of the Sony shots more. Stuff like Sony's eye AF, 20 FPS shooting, superior slow mo and 4K capabilities...plus pro camera / video apps would be enough to win me over. If I were a point and shoot kinda guy I'd probably choose the Pixel but I prefer controlling how I want my pics to look. I'm pretty confident I could take the same if not better shots with the Xperia albeit with a little more effort...tho I wouldn't even use that selfie camera 😂
@seventysevencats4 жыл бұрын
The Pixel 5 also does 4K filming, has full support for camera2api, so works very well with apps like OpenCamera for manual mode with bracketing and stuff. Slowmo isn't anything special though and I do like some shots on the Sony here, especially the Sunset. I'm too not too happy with the point and touch approach of Google (copying Apple?) but their computational raw gives some of best results in post (Lightroom/Photoshop), with image properly denoised (luma and chroma denoiser included in the computational raw). If we could get a more natural raw while keeping the noise removal, that would be perfect. That made me get a Pixel 5 but in the end, although I like it a lot (and even if it's a bit slow at time), the camera hardware pale compared to the Note 20 Ultra, which has Gcam versions that work OK (not perfect) - 7.3 from Urnyx. So for now I'm back to the Note 20 Ultra with Gcam. I just miss the astrophotography mode that doesn't work on the Samsung.

Had the 5ii, returned it because the default camera was just grim for someone coming from a 2 year old Huawei flagship. Apparently you have to use the two Pro apps to get the most out of it - which is just bullshxt for maybe 95% of users. Even Sony on their cameras know that you keep selection to one level through the dial, and they masterminded modes like "superior auto" that literally brings all the technical functionality of the camera to bear for the benefit of the consumer. First they were using inferior sensors to the ones they were supplying other manufacturers, and now their lack of investment in computational chops is showing.

Get a real camera lol..phone is more than just auto mode camera lol. Compare display and more
@gorpalm14 жыл бұрын
@@The-Heart-Will-Testify Exactly agreed. I've got real cameras, P&S and enthusiast, digital and film and instant, I shoot P, A, S and M dependent on conditions lol. The Sony just fell short - It's not for Enthusiasts, it's for Sony Enthusiasts. Understandably Sony is not trying to gain marketshare, but Adding barriers to creating great shots is mind boggling - Others can manage it, Sony has knowhow, they're just not applying it. And yes the phone is just more than the camera - Despite Sony's HUGE AV legacy the screen is no more WOW than other flagships; the audio falls short of my 2 year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro (it was oddly most competitive through bluetooth). I so wanted to love this phone, it's just behind the curve on other phones in the same price range.

the only thing i can conclude is that both of these cameras are all over the place. an example would be the boss dog sign where the pixel does an amazing job even using digital zoom and the sony looks terrible. then in the following shot with the neon sign where the pixel looks awful and the sony looks great. the only obvious thing is that the sony front camera is trash. there is no clear winner otherwise

The Xperia is really not bad but in the case of photography there are not many that can beat the Pixel 5. But the Xperia is really very good, there is progress

Lets end the debate, Pixel wins! BUT! guys these comparison vids are just trashh.. these both mobiles are for whole different niche. Pixel is more of for a normal phone user but sony is for more tend towrds a person who's a photographer n wants to get some raw footages and edit in in Lr. Secondly, for a photographer a selfie camera is barely used so sony didn't put that much effort in it and will never put. I strongly recommend to people not buy sony phones especially 1 and 5 series because they are for photographers and editors. Not for a general phone user.
