I met them over ten years ago, asking for tickets to a small sold out venue in Phoenix. I had no money, no tickets, just showed up because I loved them. Went around back asking to get in and asked JOSH of all people, I was like, wait.. dont I know you?? He said, well I’m 1/2 of the band phantogram. And he put me and my friend on the guest list. I fucking cried. I love them so so so much. Their music was along for the RIDE OF MY LIFE (I’d call it that at the time) I had their autographs but that was lost to time. I love you phantogram ✨💕😿🤟

My sons mom chose drugs and alcohol over him. I overdosed and almost lost my life in 2017. When she says “Lucy’s underground she’s got a mouth to feed. Lucy’s underground she’s never coming backkk”, it gives me the chills starting from my spine. I chose to face my demons and here I am 6 years sober from hard drugs. I started listening to this song in the beginning of it all. It brings me back to a moment of uncertainty and I was so scared to do this on my own. Now my son and I are living a beautiful life with love, pain, joy, and all the other emotions that life rotates for us. He is my beautiful boy that gave me a life worth fighting for. All the love, all the power.

@@ithielpitt7525 I’ve been in that type of relationship before.. But I truly believe this song isn’t about that. This song is about Euthanasia. It’s a conversation she’s having with someone who’s essentially dying on life support & the hard decision of pulling the plug or not. The lines where she says “ am I still alive or has the light gone black” is the persons point of view from life support. They’re asking her to question the quality of life. The lines.. “Take me underground, Take me all the way, Bring me to the fire, Throw me in the flame” Is basically Lucy asking for a mercy kill.. put me out of my misery so to speak. The line “I’d rather die than be with you” reads the same way. She’s saying I’d rather die & end this than let you watch me suffer.

Personally i think the song is about the struggles of being in an in-between place. The narrator is reflecting on feeling uncertain and caught between a "Lucy's underground" and the surface world, searching for a way out. They refer to the pull between these two worlds as the "fire," and ultimately opt to stay within it because they believe it is better than the alternative. The chorus speaks of surrendering to the uncertain journey and embracing the freedom of being "small." The song is ultimately a call to embrace the unknown and to enjoy being caught in between: being small is a reminder to stay humble and small in the great chaos of life, and always look for the beauty and love that lies within it. An amazing song and so addictive.

I'm like 50 years old, but 42 years ago, my Mom did the bravest, most terrifying, and deadly dangerous thing possible: she got us out of and abusive house with my birth father. She still bears emotion scars, had jumpiness & anxiety without relief, and is overly-fixated on making sure I get home safe from my doctor's appointments & that on payday, I was sure to pay EVERY bill...but never overbearing. It's how he broke so much of her, she shows love this way. I have my own issues, but have a psychiatrist, take my meds without fail, and been in weekly therapy for over 6 years now. Even at my age, healing can begin. But my Mom is my HERO. I can never tell her that, and why, because of what life was for us. What I can do is never get impatient with her irrational fears when they occur randomly 1 or 2 times a month, tell her how much I appreciate her looking out for me consistently, and we aren't...physically huggers...because of that stuff back then. But you can show affection, my friends, by a real smile, with sincere eyes...when she can muster eye contact, but even that's improving slowly over time, even 4+ decades after getting us out. Not that that didn't leave court case, horrific actions by him, and continued attempts at violence & intimidation. But she didn't flinch ever then. My Mom, regardless of what scars she carries, will always be the perfect Mom for me. I *like* myself now, over 40+ years and weekly therapy for nearly 7 years, and meds...and I can show her that, which is the greatest, AND ONLY, gift she has ever asked me for. She doesn't like to receive gifts, she feels it's too expensive, or that she wouldn't merit them (though no self-conscious word or those sorts has ever left her mouth!) She says only one thing of him: without him, there'd be no Me. So no matter what, it was all worth it. All of it. Just because she could do right by me as a parent, he couldn't, and I didn't deserve that life (never mentions herself the same way, though it was undoubtedly worse for her than me!) SOOO...yeah, Phantogram is both to my music taste, but greater still, they give my Mom a Voice she could never, nor would seek out, for herself. tl;dr: Tough, read it or don't!

This song reminds me of this woman who manipulated me into serving her demons for well over a year and a half.. I was a heartbroken teenager, she was sixty year old divorcee. We fed each other's addictions, alcohol, heroin, crack, meth, you name it. She fed into my trauma and demonized my mother who was only trying to help. My innocence was lost in those streets and hotels and trips... if only I could take them back. I will always remember the triumph of breaking up with her on the phone on her birthday, telling her that she is my gangrene and I had to amputate her. It's been over a decade now, and I am just now learning the word of trauma bonding. If anyone reading this feels stuck in something they know they shouldn't be in, I guarantee you that somewhere in there you have the courage to leave your abuser, and trust me you won't regret it.

i love how the intro makes people raise the volume then it kicks in, beautifully gritty and her soft vocals gently carries us through the rhythmic ambient sounds. Phantogram consistently produces modern audio for the masses always leaving me excited for the next song.
