I was not myself last night Couldn't set things right with apologies or flowers Out of place as a cryin' clown Who could only frown and the play went on for hours And as I lived my role I swore I'd sell my soul for one love Who would stand by me And give me back the gift of laughter, yeah One love Who would stand by me And after making love we'd Dream a bit of style We'd dream a bunch of friends Dream each other's smile And dream it never ends I was not myself last night In the morning light I could see the change was showing Like a child who was always poor Reaching out for more I could feel the hunger growing And as I lost control I swore I'd sell my soul for one love Who would sing my song And fill this emptiness inside me One love Who would sing my song And lay beside me while we'd Dream a bit of style Dream a bunch of friends Dream each other's smiles Dream it never ends All my dreams are lost and I can't sleep And sleep alone could ease my mind All my tears have dried and I can't weep Old emotions, may they rest in peace And dream, dream a bunch of friends Rest in peace, and dream, dream it never ends...

This song is so much more compelling and emotional when preformed by Winslow. The other version is great too, but feels much more commercial... souless even. I wonder if that was intentional.
@DanielS20012 жыл бұрын
It was the intention. De Palma stated that at the start, we hear the concerto in it's purest form and as the film goes on, we hear it getting twisted and farther away from what it was with each time we hear it. The Juicy Fruits, the auditions artists, Beef and even Swan's versions are even more far away from the original version. The closest to pure is when Phoenix performs it after Beef's death, which her singing it moves Winslow.

Orwell - Bill Finley was never a good vocalist, but that wasn’t the point. It was his character’s passion for the material that gives his voice such resonance. He clearly never would have actually had a chance of performing his own music in any venue.

I'm alone too, and have been for a long time...and I mean, really alone... as far as having anyone to turn to, for support, anyone I can rely on or share things with, anyone that I connect with... beyond surface acquaintances. So, hang in there. We alone people need to stick together...that is, remotely, from whatever cave or dungeon we're living in. Lol. (And wtf is an "edge lord?" I suppose I could look it up). Just know you're not alone in your isolation. And hey, the only way I don't feel completely alone is through having certain isolated characters to relate to, myself. And I try to fill the void in other ways, I suppose...things that help substitute the existence of people in my life, so I can get by (I don't mean drugs or anything like that, but more like activities).

I posted a comment like this once, when I was younger and heartbroken over a recent breakup, on a song that was really helping me get by. I got flamed by a couple of people, and I took it really bad at the time. Ended up removing the comment after a few days. I'm older, wiser, and stronger now, so it's funny to look back at nowadays, but really the reason I'm posting this is because, as time has gone by, I've noticed, even on the internet, with all its anonymity, is becoming more accepting and sympathetic. I think, the world is getting better every day. I have a good feeling about the future. And if you, reading this, don't feel the same way, that's OK! It's alright to be sad right now. Things will get better, I promise.
