Good review. As a comparison to a few other high quality down, cold weather bags: • Both the Feathered Friends and Western Mountaineering bags may be slightly better, but cost more. Both offer a small range of options, but none are budget friendly at all. • The Therm-a-Rest Parsec is a little more roomy, and slightly tougher, less expensive, and has better treated down, but it's heavier, and not quite as warm. Their Hyperion is less roomy, more simple. • Nemo's cold bags have more room than all others to move around, but only 650 fill. The 800 fill Riff only comes rated to 20 F. • Sea to Summit Spark series is even lighter, hyperlight with 850+ down, but not as good of a zipper. Same thin 10 denier nylon. Arguably fragile. Ratings a good 5 degrees colder than claimed. • REI's Magma 15 is super light and good quality, but also a good 5 degrees colder than claimed (eg. it's more like a 20 degree bag). (I work at REI, as a disclaimer). As a cost to weight to features ratio, the Phantom is about as good of high-end down bag you're going to find anywhere. I can't imagine anyone buying one and regretting it.

If I have my facts right, I think the thermalite parsec is actually more lightweight than the phantom zero. However, it has less down and lesser fill count down.

Yes the compression bag is included and it is somewhat water resistant. If you want it to be fully waterproof, you will need a drybag compression sack like this one: store.escaperoute.ca/products/ultra-sil-event-comp-dry-sack-xs-10-l?_pos=2&_sid=22b782f0f&_ss=r The sleeping bag has a DWR coating on it so it is water resistant as well! Great question, we are not familiar enough with the WM bison to give a strong enough opinion. However, i think the bags at this level are very similar across the board. All use the highest quality materials to give you the best product so i would be happy with any of them.

The problem with down is that if it gets wet, it's useless. In sleeping bags, there is often a chance they can get wet, especially in warmer climates and due to moisture from sleeping. More so if you are doing harder expeditions where the weather can be unpredictable! The Gore-tex lining prevents your bag from loosing warmth if it does get wet. So basically you get to keep the compressibility and lightweight features of down, but also have the benefits of synthetic. Its awesome!!
