The Phantom is a wonderful plane, absolutely outstanding for it's era. Sadly, by replacing the J70 engine for a Spey made them more expensive and any performance gained by the higher thrust Spey was offset equally by the added weight of the conversion.

Well... that value was not accounting for current inflation. Would have been very expensive for its time
