Pharoah Sanders - tenor sax
William Henderson - piano
Antoine Banville - drums
Miles Danso - bass
Recorded live at Jazz Cafe London, 08 December, 2011
#PharoahSanders (born Farrell Sanders, October 13, 1940) is an American #jazz saxophonist. A member of John Coltrane's groups of the mid-1960s, Sanders is known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of "sheets of sound". He has released over 30 albums as a leader and has collaborated extensively with Leon Thomas, Alice Coltrane and Rinai Maurice, among others. Saxophonist Ornette Coleman described him as "probably the best tenor player in the world".
Sanders' music has been called "spiritual jazz" due to his inspiration in religious concepts such as Karma and Tawhid, and his rich, meditative aesthetic. This style is seen as a continuation of Coltrane's work on albums such as A Love Supreme. As a result, Sanders is considered a disciple of Coltrane or, as Albert Ayler said, "Trane was the Father, Pharoah was the Son, I am the Holy Ghost".

I was in the audience that night and this gives me shivers hearing this back. One of the very best live gigs I've ever attended, if not the best. Truly mind blowing music from a legend still at the very top. The music lives on, rest in power!

I was 😉😂. His playing is absolutely out of this world and you get that hair raising feeling when see him playing. I am really sad he passed away recently. He had that rare magic like Coltrane, Dolphy and Parker in that he trancended the instrument and transmitted his spirit through it. Also saw McCoy Tyner a number of times and he sounded so good as well.

I saw him there twice when i lived in London at Jazz Cafe and walked calmly past me and a friend as coming into the place. My jaw dropped and his music was indeed that amazing feeling you get from the good Coltrane stuff. The squeeling sounds amazing live and when he does the trick of making sounds come from the saxophone when he takes it away from his mouth is something spirtual

@@carlbogus4497 Have you listened to James Carter? He's not as original in terms of musicality as Pharoah, but he seems to be able to coax any sound out of any sax, from bass to soprano. (I'm no expert on sax or jazz, but a huge fan of both, so I'd be interested to hear your opinion.)

J'adore . NORBERT .

The first isn't Nozipho, second song is not "Got To Have Freedom", it's a different one.The third one is'nt Shukuru either, and after The Creator Has a Master Plan (first) it's "Going To Africa". Haven't listened to all, but it seems to have various errors in that list. First is probably Welcome from Coltrane.
