First to Deschutes County, Oregon for a year then to Lane County, Oregon. Love the Willamette Valley. An hour to the Pacific Ocean, 45 minutes to the Cascade Mountains, 90 minutes to Portland, 2 1/2 hours to Northern (California redwoods) California.

Worst weather? Consistently -- the suffocating outdoor heat in summer. Rarely -- flooding & wind damage from a hurricane. Frankly, both would apply to all of South Texas. (The region's hailstorms are awesome & terrifying. Yet those seem restricted to the neighboring counties of Starr & Zapata, maybe Jim Hogg too.)
