Great point! Didn't realize how airy it was until looking at the footage. We'll crush it down before trying again!

New subscriber! You tube brought me over to your channel. Leaf blower is your friend. It’s how we do it in the Kooteney’s. Cheers, Mike.

Hey, Thanks! Lots of good feedback here. Leaf blower will certainly make an appearance at the next attempt!

A leaf blower might help to add a good amount of air to that fire and get it rolling even if its fairly green wood.

Good point! We'll be sure to add it to the payload next time. Thanks!

I use a weed burner that hooks up to my gas grill 25 lb tank. Hot blue flame, touch it off in 2 or 3 places around the base and 3 minutes later....flame on. Ive started 5 bonfires this year and tank is more than half full. Cheap and easy. We are in VT so same restrictions on burning without snow cover

One of those have been on my wish list for a while. I may need to get more serious about shopping. Thanks!

Smaller brush pile and a propane blow torch with kerosene some on the green maple wood.

@SweeneyJeffreyJ ill give a try next snow storm. Smaller pile certainly would have been more manageable. Thanks!

I let my piles dry a year before burning so they are more likely to burn hot and fast. As a starter I like using a box or paper bag stuffed with Christmas wrapping paper, soaked with a little waste oil. Then I add some waste oil as an accelerator as wood starts to catch. Technically by letter of the law you aren’t supposed to use anything like that, but I think we all do… I’ve seen some people use a leaf blower like bellows, but I don’t have one.

I think that all would be prudent! Almost broke out the leaf blower like last weekend but didn't have much faith that'd work here. Thanks!

Try using a leaf blower on the fire and maybe some straw etc.

Nice video again as always. A bit stumped why so few subs, you deserve more. I think if you would have had a tighter pile it would’ve went. You had a good starter fire.

Thanks! It was pretty loose goosey in there. I'll have to crush it down before trying it again. Subscribing is a big commitment; takes a while to earn folks trust.

Good video, anytime out in the woods with family is better than behind a desk! You have the basics down but your approach to burn down is wrong. As you build that fire in the center it hollows out and creates more distance to the green wood. It would be better for you to have a smaller longer stacked pile of wood and burn at one end, then either throw more on top as it burns or use your bucket/grapple to push brush onto burning fire. Also, trying to use diesel by itself isn’t recommended. For pasture burns and controlled fire burns forestry guys use a drip can method which combines 80% diesel with 20% gasoline for the better ignition points and burn ability. I keep old fuel from both my tractor and lawn mower available for just such a circumstance. Fire starter: you are using some good commercially available products. Some cheap alternatives which are almost “free” dryer lint with some petroleum jelly mixed together. Bacon fat/ sawdust candles with cardboard wicks. (They smell great burning). Lots of yankee ingenuity…DM me if you like.

I'm confident with enough time and effort we could have gotten her to go. All good points! Truth be told, we were eager to get the grill going for Superbowl snack... but we got the video out anyways!
