Like the porridge in the middle to Goldilocks, this video was just right. It was simple but not simplified. It gave me all the information I needed but didn't exhaust me having to sort out a flood of details. I love the commentary on the bottom and I liked how the back-and-forth comparisons were done. I wasn't put through the obligatory 'history of the pedal maker' at the beginning nor tempted to fast forward through monologues and nonsense. After watching this video I felt like I didn't need to watch any more during my search to see whether or not I was going to buy the Bad Stone. Also, the guitar playing was right for demonstrating the pedal and not overindulgent noodling.

I’ve been trying out the MXR Phase 95, which has the Phase 90 sound, plus the Phase 45 sound (more subtle) and a “script” button ~ allows for quite a lot more flexibility than the Phase 90! I quite like it. But I am tempted to try the Small Stone, as I would you prefer a pedal without the volume boost. But it’ll depend ultimately on tone - I’m willing to live with a small volume boost if I like the tone better... Oh, and I too would have loved to have seen this demo with the speed on quite slower - those faster speeds make me a little seasick... 😂

Bro, just getting back into guitar based music, used to play bass, never guitar, playing guitar now, so doing some research on some pedals. There are endless videos of pedals, but this right here was the most illuminating of ANY of them. Seriously. There are serious pedal channels that don't even come close to the simplicity and straightforwarness of this vid. Thanks for this. This is the first vid of yours, I hope you haven't stopped making videos. And if you have, get back on it and crank some vids! Also 720p would be nice. HERO

this might actually simplify things too much, when I compared the MXR phase 90 my self in a store with the Bad Stone it didn't sound so much like the comparison here... I ended up buying the bad stone cause it sounded more subtle and didn't boost the original signal, i think you can't really know what you like better until you play it yourself.

I wouldn’t say the bad Stone is more sophisticated, it just has more stages (6 compared to the small stone’s 4). So it just makes the effect a bit more intense and less subtle

I had phase 90 and boss ph3. Sold both of them only because mxr was boosting the volume and boss was decreasing it. Now i have small stone and don't have any problems with volume. It sounds very similar to phase 90, maybe a bit warmer. It's great on clean and overdriven sound. Mxr is also great souding, brighter and really shines on distortion. Both great classic sounds. Boss is much more modern with few modes for those who like to play with the knobs.
@kevinmalone89034 жыл бұрын
You can do a quick, easy mod to the MXR that takes away the volume bump. Just clip off a resistor, I think it's C-22 or something. There's tutorials online. Takes 5 min. Best phasor for the $

I like the EH just because of no volume boost like the MXR, I had the MXR Micro Flanger and got rid of it because of that very same "problem" its too loud and you cant control the mix ...its just BOOM in your face , MXR really should have thought this through better....I'm buying the EH Bad Stone

I had an MXR Phase 90 but it was before I figured out buffering so it was quite the tone sucker. Nice, plush sweep but the tone suck made it not to useful. I have an EHX Small Stone Nano which is true bypass and I absolutely love it. I have 10 pedal boards so I have different pedals all over each one. Believe it of not some of the budget pedals are very decent. I have a few of the KMISE vintage phasers and they very good. Not Phase 90-ish exactly but with a character of their own.

A whole video of phasers with the speed dimed is rather pointless! It would be nice to hear more of what each one can really do.
@GabrielVelasco5 жыл бұрын
The Phase 90 and the Small Stone are both four stage phase shifters. The Mooer is emulating the Phase 90, so it's probably also a four stage phase shifter. The Bad Stone is a six stage phase shifter like the MXR Phase 100. So, it's actually out of place in this demo.

MXR isn't a winner on most pedals, too pricey and too few knobs (although I do recommend checking out the lesser known '78 Distortion for a great distortion tone). But they nail it on this one. It's all you need, and you get that epic Smashing Pumpkins with the speed turned all the way to the left. Phase 90, baby! Small Stone gets 2nd place, and forget that Mooer crap.
@nitegoat13696 жыл бұрын
I own a Phase 90 (block) and it slightly boosts my volume, but I love the sound of its phaser effect. I like the sound of the Small Stone Nano's pahsser effect, but it seems to leave a touch of the dry signal through. If I can find one used, for cheap, I might have to give it a try.

Its an interesting demo but you focused too much on the orange side and missed the great potential of the silver side. You didnt explore the lower speeds and the colour switch of the Small Stone, that is where it excells (the original vintage was way better anyway), and never tested the parking capabilities of the manual pot of the Bad Stone, that is the real Ace of an otherwise too aggressive pedal that has lost the tone derby with its lil Small Stone brother.

I have a MXR Phase 90 EVH, which is great for some things, but the big ass Fooger Phaser is one my all time favorites. Its probably the least expensive Fooger pedal, I think I got mine $185 2nd hand. Mono or stereo, drive knob, mix knob, 6 or 12 stage, resonance knob, you cam control the sweep amount, and the LFO can go from .01Hz-250Hz. I’ve had and sold other fooger pedals but this one stays.

@@SunnyBear I would say that to evaluate and make a comparison you should make the pedals work in at least 2 or 3 different control positions. it may turn out that a pedal sounds better at full speed but sounds bad with the speed control turned off. how do we know if this demo doesn't look at it? And anyway in the many years that I have watched demos of any kind of pedals it had never happened to me to see one where the control pot does not move. the only reason to do a demo like this can be just the banal curiosity to know which of the 4 runs faster on the effect. does it seem useful to you?
