Thank you for this! I need to replace the disc id laser (recording laser) and before I do that I want to clean them to make sure its just not a dirty laser and was trying to figure out where the screws were in the DVD drive to carefully remove it

I bought one of these as a display piece, as it was accidentally hooked up to 240V and is dead being 100V only. Looking at the disassembly, the power supply and related fuse doesn't look too hard to get too. Might give it a go one day

Ah yeah you gotta be careful with Japanese and US electronics. We use 100-120v with our stuff. Best to use a step down converter at all times with these things.

Funny enough, I just broke my DESR-7700 out of the closet that I picked up a couple of months ago and tested to see if it works. It does! I actually have two and the previous DESR-7700 has an HDD that is bad (thunking noise when I power it on). Anyway, this video is VERY timely as I plan on taking this guy apart to clean it as it smells like smoke despite looking super clean. Thank you for taking the time to make this! Also, can you tell me how you got your FMBC to boot Ulaunch at the start? I got my FMBC card formatted with the PSX option and I see the logo when I boot up my PSX, however I cannot get it to boot to Ulaunch. Thanks!

Oh wow nice! Very glad to hear that this video was able to help you out! For FMCB, I followed this guide exactly and everything worked perfectly. I *believe* you may need to use a regular PS2 that can load uLaunch Configuration settings that may allow LaunchElf to load automatically. But definitely follow the link below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIfOc5aflLh3aZo

I am about to disassemble my 7700 soon. This will help me. Thank you!! Also, my HDD is working as of now. I have an image MASSter 1000 hdd duplicator. Im going to attempt to clone the drive with this machine. I hope it works!

So what were you going to say at the end? The lasers you swapped out didn't work? I'm just now attempting to swap the 'detecting' laser with another one from a sony dvd drive, and hopefully it will work. But I read that there may be different calibration data so it's a gamble.

did you make the switch? It worked?

@@flaviojulio It didn't work. I was advised to readjust it with the 4 screws until it starts reading discs. I haven't attempted it yet.

do you do repairs on model desr-5700? I have one that doesn't recognize ps2 discs
@Ex_Savior Жыл бұрын
I do not do any repairs of any kind for any consoles. If your PSX cannot read PS2 discs, I would try using Free McBoot first. If you still cannot read and discs, you can try swapping out the lasers inside.
