If I were to replace my Duo, it would be with this Phaze AI. I like my Phaze 2 a lot and I would like to add a piece with the AI outer core to my bag.
@dbreynolds07Ай бұрын
i might be crazy, but this kind of reminds me of the phaze 3, which makes me very happy
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
The shape absolutely does, totally agree there. Just seems to be quite a bit cleaner and a bit weaker
@dbreynolds07Ай бұрын
That's wacky to think tx16 and r3s are that close in their shinier counterparts
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
Well but we have to remember that the P3 was a lower hardness too, so harder TX-16 vs softer R3S would be quite a bit closer.
@dbreynolds07Ай бұрын
Ahh i didn't think about that

I’ve watched a ton of different videos on this ball and the one thing I see in common is that this ball looks very forward off the end of the pattern. I actually have one on order and am hoping it’s a bit more continuous than it seems to be. Luke, didn’t seem to be quite as much on the left side but wondering what your take is. Thx!
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
I don't really think it's forward, I just think that it goes far too long at box and so it's jerking and stopping when it finally gets traction 5 or 6 feet too late. I have no idea why they're making them so glossy and why people aren't changing the surface
@marks2193Ай бұрын
@@LukeRosdahlthx Luke, appreciate the feedback. If I get that same sort of long jerk stop oob I’ll knock the shine off, I’m a big proponent of surface change when necessary.
@TklljjАй бұрын
For a two hander 15.5mph 350, rev rate who wants a shinier asym for longer challenge patterns and or later in the block on challenging medium patterns, do you think a hitter pearl or vaporize would be better? Also what are the differences in cover strength between the two? (my main concern is that the hitter pearl's cover is too weak occasionally and the vaporize is too dynamic). Thank you love the videos.
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
I'd actually skip both of those and go with a Theorem, it's right in between the two. Stronger than the Hitter, not quite as dynamic as the Vaporize.

How do you like your Ion Pro? Lefty also thinking about getting one for middle of the bag, have a Magic Gem, RST X3, haywire and LBO just league bowling THS
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
Just for league I like it a lot, for anything else it might be one of the worst balls I've ever thrown lol.
@HackAttackx10Ай бұрын
I found this ball to be stronger on the lane than the optimum idol pearl. The pearl could get through the fronts but then come back better than the AI for me. I feel like the AI would also get lazier/chugs like a strong ball does if you have speed on it. Whats your comparison? I feel like its between like an absolute power and an ion pro, but overlaps the pro a little.
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
Well I think that means the Optimum Pearl is actually the stronger ball, this one definitely rolls a little heavier or chuggier for sure, but it's cleaner and weaker overall than the Optimum Pearl. I think you have it placed right, it's stronger than the Ion Pro, a little less than the Absolute Power, and then the Optimum Pearl is a step up from the Power, but yeah it's not much more than the Ion, it's more a shape difference there than a strength difference.
@HackAttackx10Ай бұрын
@@LukeRosdahl you dont think the AI starts hooking sooner?
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
Not really, it rolls a little earlier, but it's very clean. I think on drier conditions it might hook sooner because it rolls sooner, but that's why we use this test condition that we do so we don't get faked out. The TNT Infused had this same problem, it rolled so strong and so heavy that if there was plenty of friction, it'd outhook just about anything, but when you got on some volume, it'd just skate because the cover wasn't strong enough to get anything done. The Phaze AI cover is a little weaker, but the core seems to roll heavier, so you're going to have it go both ways depending on what you're bowling on.
@dragonman910Ай бұрын
I want this ball because it looks amazing (both shelf appeal and on the lane). My league trio right now is magic gem, optimum idol, and optimum idol pearl. Would the phaze ai fit between the idol and idol pearl, or be a ball down from the idol pearl?
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
It's a ball down from the idol pearl, optimum is a lot stronger cover than this one is.

Now that you revealed what the mystery SPI ball you drilled is, I will say I'm surprised you didn't drill an Ascent given how much you like the original Summit. I liked the original, hated the Peak, and now the Ascent is basically all I throw in league
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
That core with a quite a bit weaker R2S cover that's harder now than it used to be didn't sound like a great match. Having also seen how generally weak and over/under it's been for most other people, the interest wasn't ever there. Storm stuff any more is just way too clean and allergic to oil outside of NRG/MicroTrax.
@Matts10100Ай бұрын
@@LukeRosdahl that's a really interesting perspective honestly, because as a right handed 2-hander I don't find the Ascent to be too clean at all. Granted I don't throw it at 4000 usually either. I also think R2S seems significantly buffed this year. But, to each their own!
@mustangmagikАй бұрын
Is this gonna be anywhere close to an OG Zen replacement??
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
Not in my opinion, the Zen was quite a bit earlier, couple boards stronger, and not as sharp down lane. The closer Zen replacement would be something like the Stealth Hybrid or Ethos Hybrid
@andygarttman1466Ай бұрын
I would of liked to see the comparisons done on the same Lane/Pair on same day..
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
I don't do that because it's much more accurate to compare brand new ball to brand new ball rather than brand new ball to 9 month old ball that has 50 games on it.
@andrewweltlich9065Ай бұрын
I'm predicting it is going to look a lot better for Zach.
@0077hpАй бұрын
Most likely as we both our ball rolls are on the complete opposite side of the spectrum. Usually if I like it, he does not and other way around...plus he is just a better bowler. But on house this ball looks amazing for me. 3 leagues with it so far and all 730+. This pattern need a couple games on it and then that is where this ball would shine for me.
@andrewweltlich9065Ай бұрын
@@0077hp Yeah no shade being thrown. I was just saying with his ball roll, I bet he can throw it on a fresher condition and have it look fine, whereas you needed a bit more friction.
@0077hpАй бұрын
@@andrewweltlich9065 No offense taken, just wanted to say that for me on this condition that this would not be the ball on fresh but on house it looks great. Thanks for watching the review and supporting Luke's channel!

Any word if this Power Edge finish will be replacing any other ball that uses Reacta Gloss?

They've said that all balls released with reacta gloss would stay reacta gloss. I'm not sure if they'll continue to use it occasionally going forward or if power edge will be the new shiny finish though

High Rev low speed bowler here. When my Ion Pro starts to hook, I've gone to my AStar and it just hydroplanes. My takeaway is this ball may do same? Looking for a ball down.
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
The Phaze AI should actually hook more than the Star, it's got a stronger cover than the Star, but I don't understand the Ion hooking more than the Star . .

@LukeRosdahl Me either! May give this one a try. Thanks for the response Luke!
@Sinawi616Ай бұрын
Would this be a good ball down from the ion pro?
@LukeRosdahlАй бұрын
They don't seem to be that different to me, and on paper they really aren't either. Same cover formula, both very very clean, and what the Phaze AI lacks in int diff, it makes up for in diff. They really just seem like slightly different shaping versions of the same ball, they're right on top of each other.
@dragonman910Ай бұрын
The AI is an updown VI. The roman numeral for 6. Thus, phaze 6. Idk if this was intentional, but cool nonetheless.
