What training method do I use?
Personal ThemeCP is an experimental training system wherein users train on a perpetual ladder for ratings in [1600, 3500]. The system is based on two-hour, four problem mashups with a common “theme,” ideally done every day. You could be doing your first ThemeCP just 15 minutes from now!
Why does ThemeCP work?
ThemeCP lets you train with problems in the entire difficulty range you have a shot at solving. These approximate the problems 700 below your Codeforces rating to 100 above your Codeforces rating. This balances difficulty and skill and keeps you in the "flow state", simulating your experience in an actual contest!
Even though you are training with problems slightly below your expected rating, not all problems of the same rating are equally challenging for you. In fact, your built-in strengths and weaknesses carry a +- 200 differential on any given problem! Therefore, this system exposes you to problems in the entire range you could plausibly solve in a contest.
ThemeCP aims to increase your chances of solving such “feasible” problems in-contest and to increase your speed in solving such problems. It simulates contest conditions with the added twist of a common theme, which solidifies your intuition for every possible topic out there. Furthermore, ThemeCP’s high success rate, self-balancing at around 50%, keeps your motivation high. Failures literally increases your success rate, and successes prove your improvement!
My Testament to ThemeCP
I began the current version of ThemeCP on January 4, 2024. From January 4, 2024 to March 18, 2024, I attempted 53 ThemeCPs. My levels have ranged from 39 to 48, spanning the ratings 2050 to 2275. Throughout these three months, I solved 211 problems through ThemeCP with ratings uniformly distributed within 1500 to 2200.
And, my Codeforces rating improved from 1946 to 2145, increasing by nearly 200 points! ThemeCP gave me a consistent training routine, and training was solely what caused my improvement. ThemeCP is the sure-fire catalyst to training in greater amounts.
