Ooh, thank you, Carly, for recommending the Marina Warner book! That really sounds like something I need to read! (I've been reading a lot of Olivia Laing over the last year or so & have been thinking about ways of writing/thinking more about art & how I relate to it.) And yep, very much agree that one of the cool things about teaching at uni is that you often get to read about/get into new subjects & theories in a way that makes it a learning process both for the students and yourself. Good luck with the exhibition & the life/family stuff & may the covid cough go away quickly!

Ahh I hope you find it useful! I’ve only read the first chapter so far on Paula Rego, an artist I’d never heard of before so I’ve already learned something! In the introduction she talks about using the work of Paul Ricoeur on the changing nature of symbols throughout time as a way of approaching art which I found really insightful, so I think it’s going to be helpful. Let me know how you find it if you pick it up! Thanks so much for the well wishes ❤️
