You could get a PMP certification to go along with it, but I think that's a lot more effort than is needed. Better to take an online class to learn some of the basics, and then start asking to manage small projects once you get into your first job. That will have you learning quickly, and that's the way I learned everything I know about project management. Rather than spending time and money up front, jump in and learn as you go.

Personally, as a specialized CRM project manager (from a technical perspective) I get too much in the weeds of infrastructure in which gold plating and scope creep happens. Because I’m so passionate about it lol...and I’ve lead. Project when my PMs are technical and have to reel them back in. Having someone less technical and more process driven helps balance out the project in my experience. The draw back (everything as them) is you will as a technical team have to explain things more. I typically look for people with high level of domain and or industry knowledge, not necessarily if they are technical or not. I’ve also noticed that for an IT prospective developers like to be free and work without constraint Agile - but I think there are limitations to this. Let me correct myself I don’t disagree with your logic, I’m just highly opinionated lol Thanks!

Nothing wrong with being opinionated! I completely agree that technical PMs can get too much in the tech weeds, the way non-technical PMs can get too much in the process weeds. Balance is always best. Thanks for your input!

Aribisala Titus - Do you have a specific technology specialization or an application you are interested in? Start doing informational interviews with people in that area. That’s a great way to learn about your target and start to find openings.

Great question, Sameer. Will you actually learn some engineering with this degree, or will you simply gain more depth in project management? If the latter, I'd skip it. However, if you will actually gain significant technical knowledge, it might be a great way to improve your value.
