Will there be a collaboration between you and the Math Sorcerer on KZbin? I like your math channel! (If you haven't checked out his, I recommend it!)

Hello from Canada! I missed this stream because I was studying for my smooth manifolds and topology tests (separate courses; both tests covering basic point set topology)

Topology, way up there!

To show open interval (a,b) is not compact chose cover {(a+1/n, b-1/n)} . Another way is use sequential compactness and produce a sequence in open interval converging to ‘a’ or ‘b’. In fact there is another way to say same thing since compact sets are closed in the case of Hausdorff space and open interval is clearly not closed it’s just same thing as not sequentially compact.

I’m currently an undergrad, and I got into a program allowing me to take the graduate - (algebraic) Topology course. Currently my favorite course, and all of it is completely visual in determine the rank, nullity, and dimensions of the boundary/coboundary operators. It is a beautiful course. I highly recommend checking out the book “Topology illustrated” by Peter Saveliev. Absolutely incredible and easy to follow as well.

There is far more than what I stated, however by the way everything is instructed, everything is visual based. Our professor just showed us a pure math as well as visual proof for the open ball earlier today

Im in a point-set topology class right now. Its a tough subject!

4:18 I looked up Kolmogorov Fomin and they have "Elements of the Theory of Functions and Functional Analysis", but not a topology book?
@JaspreetSingh-zp2nm2 ай бұрын
Its ‘Introductory real analysis book’ there is one or two chapters on point set Topology.

good god this makes so angry.. why do they still waste students time forcing them to remember long proofs???? waht is the point of being able to recite a proof point for point... so dumb
@titanicisshit16472 ай бұрын
The entire point of maths is proofs,what are you talking about?
@alzawood85312 ай бұрын
I imagine the drilling is very useful - the more you're working with the material the better. Plus, a lot of tricks from proofs will be good to internalise as you can use them later. It's also probably rewarding to fully understand all the workings of the proof.

@@titanicisshit1647 but the point is not to be able to recite any given proof in a select limited time-period. this is just dumb (trust me i went through all this shit)...

@@alzawood8531 Understanding all the workings of the proof is one thing but being able to recite every given step in a proof in a limited time is just dumb. trust me, i went through all this shit and I def dont look fondly back upon the countless of weeks where i spent so many hours every day just to remember a large collection of proofs so i could recite them for the exams...
