Amen to that!! Bird dogs are a special gift; sure they have moments that frustrate every owner, but the amount of satisfaction and memories they provide outweigh all of that.

I went through this horror with two separate dogs. At the age of three my one springer got a bacterial infection from a grass awn. She was hours from death, went into major surgery. Lost a lobe of her lung and her paracardium. Good news she lived until 14 and limited hunting to age of 12. At the age of 5 my other one shattered her humerous in 6 places. Full amputation and several surgeries. In a few months she will be 10 fully retired and being spoiled rotten. Still can't get over the guilt but so glad both survived and a good life

Wow. So happy the story turned out to have a happy ending. I like how she dropped the gun to run toward the dog. As a new bird dog owner, I teared up a little watching this. So glad he made it.

My favorite episode this season. Totally gut wrenching to have a hunting day turn like that. So glad Quill is OK!

My heart dropped into my stomach and yeah I shed a tear or two when Quill got hurt. You love to take them to those places and watch them work, but that risk factor is always there. My cousin had a wide-ranging Brittany who unfortunately got so locked into bird scent that he ran onto a road in front of a car and was killed. I'm so glad Quill pulled through. Hopefully he'll recover from the trauma as well and be back to full-on by next season.

Just an incredible episode. Bird dogs are something else, and I’m so happy Quill lives to hunt again someday. And thank you, Travis, for sharing that moment of vulnerability with us after the retrieve on day 2.

Please 🙏 be careful while you hunting in such snowy weather, always when you move or walk fingers off the trigger, just in case you slide so you don’t shoot your self in a mistake , and have a safe hunting , much love from iraq 🇮🇶 really like this page ❤

Glad it turned out better than worse. Had the same thing happen to me I was hunt a bluff area I shot a pheasant just broke a wing ,pheasant took off running my two dogs in hot pursuit it circled around it went off the bluff , I was able to whistle sit my older dog but my young dog went off the edge figured to find her in a pile luckily she bounced back up and grabbed the pheasant.

Hello Travis and crew. We’re All Sorry to see an injury happen. Can I ask why all 3 of you prefer a double barrel shotgun over a semi or pump version ? I’m assuming they are 12ga. Enjoyed watching, Thanks
@bigcountry94572 ай бұрын
Specifically over/under shotguns are prefered for upland game . Since you have two barrels you can use two different chokes which is an advantage for pheasant hunting.
@emilyburgess472710 ай бұрын
You hunt over dogs long enough you'll have to endure some difficult injuries. If you play in western ND regularly be prepared for rattle snake bites in the fall and know where the nearest vet is in the area. If your dog has a decent nose and you go out there regularly your dog will have an encounter sooner rather than later. Badlands country deserves respect. Glad your pup was ok. German dogs have that drive that is unmatched and their willingness to please their human loved ones is unmatched. You learned a valuable lesson. You can't just have one dog! If you put a lot of days in the field it is common to have one on the mend once in awhile.

I literally had to stop watching for a while when it came to the point where Quill was injured, there's something about dogs, especially bird dogs wipes me out when they get injured or worse. I wasn't going to resume watching but then I read the other comments so I finished the episode. As you say "There's something about a bird dog." All the best to Quill and his owner.

I love this show but Travis, never quite understand bringing a 2 shot O/U to hunt pheasants or partridge or grouse, 3rd shot is so important
@bigcountry94572 ай бұрын
What do you mean, the vast majority of upland bird hunters use O/U. The reason is so you can use two different chokes. This is why many hunters opt to give up three rounds in favor of a better choke set up.

Who doesn't know to keep their dogs away from a cliff? If you have a really driven dog, he'll do whatever he can to get the retrieve....even hurt himself. As hunters we are all aware that we have to look out for our dogs. I doubt VERY seriously if this dog "slipped" of the cliff. Beginners ....with dogs.
