I just love how the Queen hasn't aged a day since Snow White was a child, she has even less reason than the Disney version to be insecure about her beauty when she's a 40 something year old woman who looks like she`s a 25 year old knockout. And keep in mind how, meanwhile, Goodtimes made Cinderella`s stepmother look like a fusion of Cruella de Vil and Frankenstein`s Bride.

Fun fact: the reason why the evil step-mother trope became so common was because of how the inheritance laws worked at the time. Because a woman couldn't legally inherit anything unless she was the only surviving relative and because a husband legally owned everything of the woman he married, and because of how common it was for women to die in childbirth, it was a constant thing where a man would remarry and will everything to his immediate family, including the stuff his second wife owned, while leaving his step children with nothing. Stepmothers would regularly hate their step children because they'd get everything and abuse by step-parents was super common.

Spain was a rarity in Europe, their inheritance laws favored widows over children. The boneheaded Prince in this story just makes me realize how easily this could've been made less creepy by a simple change of dialogue. In the scene where he meets her, instead of seeing this distressed princess clearly lost and unfamiliar with her surroundings and thinking, "She's hot! Go after her so I can marry her!" he could've just as easily said, "She looks like a princess, what would she be doing this far out into the woods? She must be in danger, I should go help her!" That would change his motivations, ever so slightly, from being a shallow, possessive bonehead to a bonehead who's at least compassionate to total strangers. Then his meeting with the queen would be him genuinely being worried that a princess is lost and in danger somewhere, and then suspicious about why the princess would be fleeing from the castle. Then that might lead to some kind of confrontation where the Queen is brought to justice, instead of being karmically fucked over by unrelated magic? It's almost as if slavishly adhering to really dated elements of fairy tales keeps you from making characters relatable.

There would have been nothing wrong with the love at first sight trope had they done it correctly and made if believable. His dialogue though makes everything feel icky. It's also strange that he should meet Snow when she's clearly in danger and not either before that i.e Disney or sometime after in the woods.

Some of it isn't just that the original story is outdated so much that there is a HUGE difference in medium. Fairytales are told like fever dreams, almost like entirely different worlds onto themselves. If you told Tangled in the medium of a Fairytale it would be terrible "So... Then Princess Repunzel sang her song explaining her entire motivations extremely plainly to her pet Chameleon who can turn completely invisible. The wicked fake mother who kidnapped her then sings a song specifically targeting her self-esteem while also guilting her in an elaborate musical number".

Goodtimes I know the Evil Queen in the Disney version used a reversible poison, but at LEAST it was because that was the most ironically cruel thing she could think of. She easily could have just used Cyanide, Arsenic, or a Knife but instead wanted to watch as the people who loved her the most, accidentally kill her. Plus at least her poison required "True Love's First Kiss", something she didn't even know Snow White had and not something that could be accidentally reversed just by shaking her body.

The Magic Mirror's actions points it to be a real villain of this story. First it explains situations in a way queen makes hasty decisions, then it reveals victim's whereabouts and after several failures and an assault Magic Mirror traps queen in a place where she cannot reveal mirror's part in murder plots.

Man, every character in this is the same voice cast as Cinderella right down to the roles. My grandma once got me that movie for Christmas when I was 7. It came with a "Snow White" doll in the DVD box. This was the first time I experienced a "mockbuster".

The animation of the hair and the way the dress moves reminds me of Filmation's Happily Ever After, their unofficial sequel to Disney's Snow White. I suppose if nothing else the voice acting isn't too bad at all. Also the venomous snakes were made/transformed into a poisonous necklace! Then when he threw them on the ground they turned back bc the spell was super weak lmao. Poisonous jewelry and stuff is a Thing in urban legends and fairy tales.

Fun Fact of the ACTUAL Story kids. The prince shows up, sees the girl dead, mind you he hasn't seen her AT ALL in the original tale. So its just a rich guy who says "OH DUDE A DEAD GIRL? Can I buy her from you dwarves?" "Yeah sure" And the prince bosses around his men so much that one SLAPS Snow White in the face out of spite which knocks the apple bit out.
