I couldn’t agree more with your comment about the 1010 fitting like a baseball cap. I personally prefer a morning pride Ben 2 but I was issued a 1010 as a cadet but as soon as I become a volly my department provides us with leathers.

Great lids, I'll never go back to another leather helmet. Or composite helmet for that fact.

This is my first leather helmet. I was issued a Cairns 1010 which was nice but damn this thing fits like a baseball cap. Everyone I have talked to about Phenix Helmets had nothing but good things to say about their leathers. Thanks for watching my video. Be sure to like and share as well.

I have a cairns Sam Houston Leather fire helmet that I got build in 12/12/2011 deluxe with bourks and ess goggles and with the dark tan earflaps. I like my Sam Houston helmet saw the prices today for cairns leather fire helmets there like at $1,000 and even more than that mine was between 800 dollars I believe including tax was 800 dollars. Ridiculous how the cairns helmets leather ones are way over priced it's ridiculous. Saw them on the fire store at that price as a former firefighter we all know that fire gear is not cheap but it should be at a reasonable price though.

UPDATE: Wide body leather front does not fit. Had to special order a leather front for my TL-2. When it comes in I will post a video about it.

looking into ordering one of these, this review was 4 years ago, hows it been holding up to the wear and tear?
@spiderman409112 жыл бұрын
It got solid use for a year and held up well. I became an instructor shortly after and I refuse to wear it in training fires. Headed back to ops soon so check back in a year with me.

Are firefighter helmets made from other material than leather?
@spiderman409117 жыл бұрын
In the older days they were made of leather or metal. Now they are made out of composite material like a polymer plastic that can take hight heat. This is my first leather helmet and I love bringing old traditions back. This helmet takes the old traditional helmet and mixes it with modern day safety features. It is NFPA compliant so thats pretty awesome.

How much do these go for im about to go through the academy and once i graduate im wanting to experience more with leather right now as a junior were issued bullard modern style helmets (i hate the way they look and feel it dosent fit right and looks like a blazing orange cereal bowl) so i went with a cairns 1010 and fits amazing just wanting some input on if i should stick with the cairns 1010 or move to the more traditional leather helmets
@spiderman409116 жыл бұрын
I have been in the fire service for 17 years and wish I would have bought a leather sooner. Mine ran me $650 but worth every penny. It's even cooler to wear a traditional helmet like the firemen who came before us. I used to wear a turtle shell and hated it. I have had many cairns 1010 and 1044 but this one blows them out of the water.
@southernfiremen28456 жыл бұрын
LivinFireFightinLife alright man thanks like i said im only a junior i bought the 1010 and love it love the fit and style of course im not going to blow 650 plus dollars on something ill use for 3 years since our helmets are in orange but ill keep the leathers in mind for when i become a firefighter soon i do want to go with the San Houston Cairns helmets my dad had one and said he really enjoys it
@spiderman409116 жыл бұрын
Best thing about a leather is it can be repaired and re painted. Also my department required it be NFPA certified so I needed that sticker on the inside to be able to wear this at work.
@southernfiremen28456 жыл бұрын
LivinFireFightinLife as a junior my department "requires it to be NFPA but the only thing that needs to be NFPA is eye wear and it must have reflective but once you become paid it definitely has to be NFPA

Beautiful helmet, would love to have one here. But going into a fire with this on? Never in my life.
@jackmaynard76186 жыл бұрын
MarcelPichault be in a flashover or have a ceiling fall on you. You'll change your mind real quick!
@MarcelPichault6 жыл бұрын
Thanks but my heltmet often a far superior resistance to heat than this one. Although if you get caught in a flashover you're pretty much dead, no matter what your gear is...

My Dept. issued us Phenix TL-2s in Natural a couple years back......Most comfortable helmet I've ever worn and I've worn both Bullard and Cairns Fiberglas and leather helmets....I have had no problems being inside a structure with this or any other leather helmet, but I'm old school.
@sethgauby87306 жыл бұрын
What size did you order ?
@spiderman409116 жыл бұрын
I think they only have one size but the inside part can be adjusted. If you have a larger head they can move the front forehead piece out to make for a larger fit.
