Just wanted to let you know that ure a legend, cus there’s no other chemist dedicated enough to make videos for students to secure their future’s. U r the best.

+Amna Umar Thanks. You could try tuition kit. They have a good series of vids on a level biology and a level maths! Well worth the money for these! kzbin.info

Great video, very useful. Worth noting that TCP is not trichlorophenol, for those that are interested: " The brand name comes from its original chemical name, which was trichlorophenylmethyliodosalicyl (not to be confused with trichlorophenol, a common fungicide)."

Love these videos but I think there's a couple things wrong with this, isn't phenol more reactive because the lone pair from -OH is delocalised into the ring? 4:41 implies vice versa. Also TCP is actually trichlorophenylmethyliodosalicyl ( what a mouthful). Thanks again for all these great videos!

Okay so I really don’t know a lot but my dogs eyes does produce tears and I can tell she is in pain do you think it would be okay to put olive oil in her eyes for some relief??

Does anyone know whether it is required of us to learn the Phenols topic for AQA syllabus?
@AlleryChemistry8 жыл бұрын
+Mo Tayee No other than the fact a phenol is benzene with an OH group attached.

To explain why phenols do not undergo nucleophilic substitution, do I write p orbital of oxygen or lone pair on oxygen is delocalised into pi system of electrons in benzene ring thus forming partial double bond which is harder to overcome? Similarly, to explain resonance to explain increased reactivity of phenol to electro sub, do I write lone pair of electrons on oxygen atom or p orbital of oxygen atom is delocalised into pi system of electrons thus increasing electron density and susceptibility of benzene ring to electrophiles? This may be not be as "relevant" to the A levels but I really want to know.
@AlleryChemistry8 жыл бұрын
That's right. This leaves the O-H bond weaker and hence can be dissociated. Hence why phenols are slightly acidic.

Hi there. Can you help me with some bio-chemistry questions related to phenol? Is 0.05 percent phenol solution injection can kill new corona virus?
