A cheaper and easier way to build your own Strandberg would be to buy one of the many Chinese knockoffs and than upgrade the hardware. I am glad you reshaped the neck, since that's really the most revolutionary bit of the Strandberg and makes them worth the expense.
@theshapeexists7 ай бұрын
I've seen some very subpar woods and luthier work in the knockoffs. Poor glue joints and sacrificed integrity isn't a good foundation to built off of. This guy did it properly.
@non_brewed_condiment7 ай бұрын
Idk if that would really scratch a strandberg itch. Those have a pretty distinctive feel. Not even saying everything strandberg uses is fantastic. But most people like the way they feel and the China knockoffs definitely feel suuuuper different.

Cool. Came out great! I did a "semi-Strandberg" conversion to my Strat that is relatively easy to accomplish with a minimum of modifications, and has some interesting advantages that you or your viewers may be interested in. The main reason for the conversion was to make the guitar more ergonomic to hold. Here are the things that I did over time that made the ultimately lower bout ergonomic cutaway possible. 1. Long ago, I made a rear access to the Electronics Cavity so I could easily test/switch different Caps, Pots, etc. 2. I use a Modeler, and found that I didn't need the Middle or Neck Pickup, as I dial in everything on my Neck Pickup. 3. Since I didn't need a Pickup switch, I removed it, and have a Volume, and a Tone Knob for the Bridge Pickup. I left the rear hole in the Pickguard open. 4. With the previous 3 Mods already in place, I realized I could cut out wood from the Lower bout, so the guitar could sit ergonomically between my legs. 5. I used the shape of the lower portion of the pickguard as a guide for removing the excess wood. It made for a nice shape and was just small enough to remove the wood necessary so the guitar would sit/balance on my thigh. I did have to angle/bevel the back part of the wood for a comfortable fit. 6. Since I removed the standard "Football Jack" recess when I removed wood from the lower bout, I used the empty back hole in the Pickguard for the Jack. I saw a video of a guitar with 2 jacks, and may put the removed Football Jack like in this YT video by Phil McKnight: "Kiesel A2 With Scalloped Fretboard." 7. Having all the Electronics on what amounts to a "Loaded Pickguard" makes it possible to swap the entire Pickguard/electronics/Pickups by simply using a solderless "Quick Connect." This is surprisingly easy to do, as can be seen in the short YT video: Tutorial: Quick-Swap Pickguards for Strats This gives you all kinds of flexibility with your Strat, as you can configure it with different numbers of Pickups, etc. with easily swappable Pickguards. 8. I left the original neck and tuners in place, as it wasn't necessary or advantageous in my case to swap them. 9. I use Acrylic Paint for any touch ups, etc. on my Strat. It is easy to apply (brush), dries fast, no fumes, looks good (sort of a semi-gloss), and is inexpensive: DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint, 2-Ounce on Amazon for under $5. Hope this helps someone consider how they can make a Strat more like a Strandberg quite easily, with some outstanding advantages.

I have been working (slowly) on a project similar to this. I started my first prototype on a cheap, used guitar I bought on ebay just as proof of concept. Now I am on my 2nd prototype using a Warmoth body blank and Warmoth Fender replacement neck. I definitely will incorporate some of your tips and lessons learned! I purchased a Hipshot bridge, which I will continue to use until I get a prototype with which I am pleased. However, since they are expensive, I plan to get one of these Nova bridges to see if they work for future guitar builds. I am not bothering with the Endure neck shape right now. Maybe someday in the future, I will buy a neck blank and shape it similar to Endure. Also, I am not bothering with multi-scale. I need a lot more building experience (and tools) before I try something like that.

15:20 "but in fairness, it does look awesome" haha that could be said about every little "compromise" you had to make here because... it does look awesome. Rad build, great work. Looks good! Well done! 👍 Yeah, the center line 9:43. Me dumb, has measured the middle of guitar body's butt for the center line. On my kit build Telly the bookmatched burl veneer is now off the middle by 2mm. I almost cried. After that I checked this on my other guitars. Turns out that all have the lower part of the body 2-3-4 mm wider than the upper half. First I wondered why, but I found out : it's for optical reasons. The lower part has already a smaller surface, plus it's "crowded" with knobs and switches and pickguard wich lets it appear even smaller. Therefore the middle line should part the body in two harmonious balanced looking halfs (if that makes sense), the lower bigger than the upper. 😊

When you die the top next time, watch some PRS factory videos. They soak the top with colorless solvent first. This way the top does not absorb so much die and is not so dark. Second thing - the color is more consistent. It also helps much when you do some gradient stuff, because it allows the colors to blend in a stable way. In short words - the top must be wet enough when you work on it. If you die the top dry, the paint will just stop where it was. The problem with dying the wood is that is have some areas that takes a lot of the paint and when you firstly fill it with solvent, it will still allow the paint to soak but just not as much. You will clearly see the difference.
