I feel like Phife knew his end was coming. This song is one of the most unique songs I've ever heard. It combines Phife's reflection of his past with Dilla while bringing us to the present where health, stress, and life have brought Phife new appreciation in wisdom. What's so interesting about this song is the story we get about Dilla through the eyes of Phife but never fully expressing his feelings, leaving that for when they meet each other again. We will never be privy to this, but the feeling is not a goodbye but a see you later.

... Plus all the imagery/visuals is powerful! 2:49 I cry! Fo real... 10 mn earlier I was listening one of his beats while remembering what a unique moment in my life when I was at his last concert in Paris, with my Sony minidisc recorder and a mic. I recorded everything!! In my memory too. I was in front of the stage when this literally happened: The crowed splits and Jay Dee appears in a wheelchair with the help of his crew, they lifted him on the stage. Crowd was screaming but at the same time a lot of us wasn’t expected to see him so sick. I started crying,, my friends too. After a few minutes in front of him I stopped the recorder and get out to get some fresh air. I came back after 5mn, I didn’t want to miss more of it. Knowing this moment has a huge meaning for my man Dilla. His last tour. 👋

I met phone once, while I was a security guard, I had the chance to walk him to his tour bus. I recall him being extremely personable. I grew up listening to atcq and more bc my big brother introduced me to them. I love jd, slum, etc. Needless to say, Phife took my being a huge fan reall smooth with a smile thank you, and went on to talk about being a sports fan and spending a lot of time being involved in his own way in the sport of basketball. I felt such a relief and blessing to actually speak with him after growing up with his body of work. All I can say is, that still to his bus, made me feel like family and I sensed how it must be to truly be happy and content. RIP NOT ONLY TO JD AND phife to all the ppl reading this whose lost loved ones. It’s hope, simply hope to see our loved ones again that makes me a believer in the afterlife. Peace world

I think this is the second time I cried and really tried to hold it in from death of a person I don't have any familial ties to. Tribe, De La, Slum, Wu...etc. In the 90s growing up as a non-black minority, hiphop was the only thing I could really relate to and be a role model to me because I simply had none. That ended up making me love the art form, DJed, made beats etc and even to this day. I decided to walk the road of going into health field later in life and sort of promised myself when I met phife as a fan, I would give him words of encouragement when I became a fully fledged doc years ago. I didn't get to do this which broke my heart. His death "ironically" fuels me to keep an eye for other people and their health. A good health is a long term process and often needs good guidance and support system. Phife you had a heck of a battle throughout your life. Diabetes isn't an easy disease deal with especially if you love to eat. I would know, I love cooking and eating and cannot imagine not being able to eat majority of foods. RIP and hope you are having a dope cipher with Sean price, Biggie, Pumpkinhead, Proof, Pac, Big L etc under beats Dilla make! If I weren't afraid to die, it would be for me to see THAT! Blessings to the families of the deceased ones

L. Nelson Butler I can talk to a beat box, but why? I know not everyone can sing or have talent. This "art"(if you want to call it art) form is attractive to the lower class, no talent people. It is something many can relate to.

He went to dialysis with my brother. I passed by him, every, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I always wanted to say something to him, but didn't want to invade his privacy. I hate so much that I missed a golden opportunity. Neither he, nor I, can get that time back. I'm gonna miss him.

R.I.P. Phife Dawg - you are so missed. I had a fantastic time being behind the scenes of you making the music video, "Dear Dilla" when it was filmed in Chicago. You was so humbled and appreciate the ATCQ fans. It is me at footage scene 3:06 with the red and white strip, and wearing my Chicago Cubs baseball cap. I will cherish this memory for the rest of my life.
