From Syberlilly: '"Hey, everybody! Unfortunately, this is not Pat, but instead Lilly, as I have hijacked his account -- KIDDING! However, after sending these near essays, KZbin just doesn't dig any of them and zaps them away in minutes. I promise that I am neither a robot nor a replicant, but, just to keep things as brief as I can manage, Pat has updated the description with where you can hear more of my vocals. some people do it because they have the NPC mentality to only support the original artist no matter what, it's a sad state of being to be honest, i see it all the time, i mean sure they are loyal, but they are often the most jealous when someone creates a song that is either better done better or even complements the original with a new spin on it. i loved the original, but i also loved this version as well.

Hey, Shaun, thank you so much for these sentiments. Regarding the vocal work, my purpose was to create a dichotomy between my and the original performance that wasn't the obvious presence of a female voice, but rather an entirely different emotional range, one removed from anger or bitterness and instead expressive of distance and regret. Thank you for sharing your listening experience that embodied everything I strive to capture when I sing 💜.

The more times I listen to this the more I learn to appreciate the details. I've been a Genesis fan for all my life and loved Phil's music up until the Against All Odds phase. Over the years the song lost some of its charm for me but this has breathed new life into it. That's a real bummer about your friend, man. In the very early 90s I was roadying for a fusion band called Firemerchants. They briefly had a vocalist/writer and me and her spent some great times together in Venice beach. One day she just packed up and left town without a word.

Personally the thing I find about someone close 'disappearing without a word' isn't that they went without saying anything its that i misjudged our friendship to be close enough that they would be able to talk about it but then someone said to me "what if they felt so close to you that they thought they didn't need to physically 'talk' with you?" I'm still thinking that over years later .

Thank you so much for your visceral words and imagery, morelenmir 💜! I wanted to create a vocal that was contemplative, almost yearning, as opposed to interrogative and angry. Not bitter for remnants of the past, but rather speculative of them. I appreciate your comment! P.S. (edit) -- Based on your description of this cover's sound, I think you would really love this song named "Crystalline" by a synthwave band called The Midnight. The synths are silky, the vocals are smooth, but the percussion and guitar are hardened and distant. I think you'd really dig it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWXMfYttmryqo6c

@@syberlilly Hey Syberlilly!!! It is _really_ nice to hear from you!!! Your vocals are amazing on this recording, as is the whole track. This is a phenomenal version of "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. The melding of visual and audio tracks is impeccable. It couldn't be any better. While watching the video, I was transported back in time-all the way to September 16, 1984 (Miami Vice, S1E1). I'll never forget watching "Brother's Keeper" featuring the song "In The Air Tonight." It was in the first episode of Miami Vice. I was amazed at the music chosen to accentuate various scenes. The music had nothing to do with events occurring in the background, but it had everything to do with the emotion and energy of the scene. That episode won two Emmy Awards. And then the following year, I caught "Out Where the Buses Don't Run" on October 18, 1985 (Miami Vice S2E3) featuring "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits. And that had an equally profound connection. I've watched those episodes dozens of times and still get chills. The season two episode also was nominated for an Emmy Award (as were many others). It was that good. I bought the CD the next day. I had to have it. Twenty years later, I commented to my sister, "Once in my life, I want to see a Dire Straits Concert." Dreams do come true. She told me they were scheduled to perform at Red Rocks, Colorado, in just a few months! Of course, I went (10th row center with my sister) and loved every minute. I will honestly say that your music brings me to the same place. The visuals are also superbly crafted -even in the studio mix "Love On A Real Train," which is near perfection. And I love that Syberlilly appears behind the translucent glass. It's like an homage to the opening scene of Risky Business-"The Dream is Always The Same." And wouldn't you know it-Tangerine Dream is another all-time favorite.
@stateazure2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, thanks so much for your comment! That's not actually Syberlilly behind the glass, just stock footage, but it was supposed to be suggestive of course! Now every day it seems, I hear her singing it the way Syberlilly sings it, and keeps time with the beat as well. She's shared it with others, and they are listening to it and loving it. You're beginning to touch people in ways musically that probably couldn't be touched otherwise. Incredible. Well done. Do not stop what you're doing, for it's completely amazing, fantastic, add your own descriptive words. Thank you.

Hey, W., this was an absolutely incredible comment to read. I always cherish and value praise that is elevated, declarations that ascertain the power and beauty that music continues to hold as the rawest form of human expression. Perhaps there is irony in this response of mine as KZbin has made music even more widespread, and I am very grateful for this, but I believe that the zealous and obsessive consumption of technology and social media has further disembodied the human spirit. It is my belief that in every way, be it physically, emotionally, or psychologically, the departure of humanity from a more organic, almost primitive way of life has plagued each and every one of our souls. Being twenty-one years old, many would declare that I have no business being as cynical as I am, or that I am yet another young person whose delusions are entirely conceived by nostalgia, and yearning for things I never experienced, another Gilded Age, of sorts, in which the world was falsely perfect. Regardless of what the truth may be, it is my ultimate goal to preserve the human touch as much as I can. To touch hearts and render them aware of how tangible it is to be human. I wish for listeners to hear a voice of depth and desire, of someone who wants to convey the human experience through melody and voice. State Azure (Pat) holds many of the same values I do, which is why it was such a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with him on this cover. He wielded a lot of passion for this production, and I wanted no shortage of my own when recording those vocals. The only thing I can ask for myself is that music will evoke an experience within the listener. Music is not mean to be heard in one ear only to escape the other; it should be kept inside, much like a memory, in order to be cultivated into a garden from which internal understanding and thoughtfulness can grow. Much love to you and your wife for enjoying this song so much 💜.

@@syberlilly Thank you for your very kind reply. I would not have guessed that you are 21, because the comments you made to me and the beliefs you hold dear are very sage to say the least. I have a few thoughts in response to what you said (don't worry, I agree with them). Music is supposed to evoke that experience you described, to capture the heart, to capture emotion. You're supposed to listen to it with both ears, both sides of the brain; it's the way to feel the full experience of the music. But the music itself can't be just noise; it has to have feeling, flying through the air to your ears and brain, to bring a smile to your face, and a special kind of relaxation and enjoyment of the music piece that you're listening to. Many genres of music just don't do that these days, and as you eloquently noted, the departure of humanity from that more organic, almost primitive way of life plagues us - and to be honest, many of us in general don't realize that it's even happening. A more general realization about music today that I have is that it's what I called "canned." It doesn't have what I described (and you said earlier) the feeling of what music should be; it's just noise. Now, I grew up listening to country music growing up and that's fine, but I got tired of it. I wasn't getting what I wanted out of music at that time, so I set out to find what I was looking for, to listen to, musically speaking. (I was in my early 20s at the time, I'm 57 now.) 80s and early 90s pop helped fill some of that void, but it wasn't ultimately what I was yearning for. So, finally about 2017 I was looking around KZbin when I discovered trance and house, but then I found a type of music, like New Age but definitely different. Artists I discovered like Madis, Schiller and Stive Morgan and their music were filling me up like I had never had before: beautiful, simple, and alive. M83 was probably the bridge to these wonderfully talented people at that moment in time. And then last year (2020) I discovered SA and eventually, you. SA's ambient music was unlike anything I had ever heard before, and the covers he created were out of this world. Everything the man does is soothing, calming and very well done. I can tell that he sets high standards for his music, and the results...well, we know about that, don't we? I have a soft spot for those who are original in how they use synths and keyboards to create the music they create (having played keyboards and organs as a teenager) and what SA does is simply masterful, and that word does not adequately describe how I feel about his talents. Your vocals, Lilly, are beautiful. Soft but strong, full of feeling, like you truly believe in and love what you're singing, full of life. Not many vocalists can do what you do; those that do often arrive at Halls of Fame in various musical categories. I've never heard a voice like yours before, period. I'm willing to wager that you could sing any style of music if you set your mind to it. I have one thing to say to both you and SA: Keep doing what you're doing, whether in collaboration or your own singular musical paths. Both of you are very special, special talents, like none we have seen in recent memory. The truth of your works, the honesty and feeling of them, go way beyond almost anything else out there in music today and potentially for all time. I'm very critical about the music I listen to, so what I'm telling you is rare high praise. I wish the both of you well in all your musical endeavors, for you have in me a true, devoted fan that can't wait to hear what's next. Be true to yourselves with your music, and you'll go far; this fan certainly believes that.

I love the cover. The Visuals are perfect and in sync for this time we are living in. That being said, it's hard to beat the Master.. Between this and the Euro-version I think this version takes the edge... I'm sure Phil is impressed.. Keep up the great job!
