Sounds like Phil was his own background singers for this song. He’s incredible - such a talented & interesting guy

Phil Collins should've released this on an album it's too good. Nevermind I didn't realise it was released as The man with the horn but still I'd prefer this version as a song

Has he ever released this?

He hasn’t, no. I don’t believe there is a full version of this song in existence. It was written as a game show theme for his appearance on “Miami Vice”. This was cobbled together using only that 30 seconds from the show. He DID re-work “Rat Race” into “Man With the Horn”, a non-album track from “No Jacket Required”. I always liked “Rat Race” better. *check out the links at the end, if you haven’t already.

I think you have the order of that backward. The Man With The Horn was released as a B-side to the song Sussudio, and it was released on 21 January 1985. It was recorded during the No Jacket Required sessions, and that album was released four days later, on 25 January 1985. The “Phil The Shill” episode of Miami Vice aired on 13 December 1985. So I’m pretty sure that Phil reworked The Man With The Horn so that it could be used in the episode…. not the other way around. I’m just guessing about this next part, but I think he only reworked a few bars of the song because the show producers didn’t need a full version of the song. I appreciate what you’ve done here; I’m just clarifying the order of the songs.

@@T.C.McGowan Ooh, you could very well be right! "Horn" was most likely originally intended for "No Jacket...", but didn't make the cut. So yeah, that makes sense. :) Why has no one ever asked PHIL about it? LOL
