I've watched this scene a million times but this is the first time I've picked up on that subtle Iron Man II callback. Very last shot, the Tesseract is displayed right next to the original version of the Arc Reactor that Howard designed, which tony recognized from his father's notes from IM2…that's why it was the first thing that caught his attention, and you can see his expression change to "Oh shit…this is serious". Marvel clearly puts almost as much effort into the more backgrounded events as the key scenes...and that's obviously why they're the best.

Don’t sweat it Jehad I actually had the exact same experience rewatching this scene having missed the extra weight of the “whoaaah” look in Tony’s eyes after picking up the tesseract and realizing the seriousness of the situation. He remembered ‘the Tesseract’ from his father notes. The “PoOrtal or not” displayed next to it had nothing really to do with original comments point, point is just that at the last moment of the scene Tony can be seen recognizing the tesseract and the gravity of its importance shows on his face. Despite of being considered by some as mere pieces of entertainment, I find the MCU abosolutely fascinating, so well executed and aligned visually in it's timeline, I can watch Ironman I and Avengers Endgame and both look like filmed yesterday. That's why some things still surprise me: I just realized Ironman's trilogy was finished extremely early in MCU's timeline.

its all due to their slow transition from physical props to CGI, the older iron man suits were pretty much complete costumes, so as a result it looked super realistic, then overtime they started to make the costumes less and less complete as CGI could cover those parts, until eventually it was pretty much all CGI, but by that point it looked real enough that you couldn't tell the difference

There so much to unpack here; When he looks at the Hulk on the screen; he knows it’s Banner and he knows the story behind it, but he’d never seen how intense it actually was. Then the look of shock when he pans over to Rogers. Like, what the hell is he doing here? Then the Tesseract. All the notes from Howard Stark in Iron Man 2 that led to developing the new Arc Reactor. This is why the MCU’s world building is so great.

I think it comes from Tony's elitism. He doesn't like being handed objects because he's a germophobe but he only dislikes behind handed things by people who he thinks of as insignificant, as if they're dirty. You see his distaste quite often in the earlier films. You actually see him shake hands with people and wipng his hands with a cloth in at least three scenes. Howard's his dad. He totally respects him. There's no way he has those feelings of him being tainted.

Things i noticed after viewing this scene multiple times: 1. There's a live camera in the elevator through which tony stark is seeing Phil. 2. What pepper spoke to tony into his ears was audible by phil coulson means he can hear to their convo every time 3. Shield were able to identify that there is a stone inside tesseract but don't know how to extract it. 4. Shield has already been into system of tony stark because they were able to override protocols made for jarvis. 5. PP also got informed about the situation and work of Tony's father that she immediately took a jet to DC. She knew it was time to leave Tony alone

I really, really appreciate that later in the movie Tony is talking about Phil and he is like "There was a cellist". It means his brilliant mind is perceptive enough to not only hear but also store into memory that information about a guy he literally doesn't care about and is totally dismissive of, even while concentrating on the complex content in front of him. It is a subtle way to show the audience he is a genius imo. EDIT: Also when he is like 'have you guys ever tried shawarma?' as he randomly noticed the shawarma joint while being surrounded and attacked by flocks of alien militia.
