@@ChristineGraham-b1w Click on the "CC" at the bottom of the screen and that will give you captions so you can read what the speaker is saying. The thing about accents is that we all have one, but since we usually talk and listen to people who have our same accent, they don't notice ours and we don't notice theirs. Using closed captions. Good luck. .

I submitted a topic to the Phil Donahue show in January of 1982. The producers decided to make one of their shows about this, so I was invited to attend. They offered to pay for me and a guest to fly to Chicago, but we decided to drive and I was reimbursed for travel expenses of gas money. The producers paid for our overnight stay at a hotel also. Just before the show, we were invited back stage to meet Phil with a small group of other guests. He was the most handsome, kind and sweet host! Very personable and charismatic! He was very gracious and grateful for our input into this show. A wonderful and exciting experience and cherished memory! God’s blessings to his wonderful soul and to his precious wife and family!

Phil Donahue is a legend, as is Marlo……I can feel what she has just gone through as I had the honor and privilege to be the helpmate to my husband as he battle for 5years with cancer. He served in theNavy as an A4 pilot. I worked so had that he never lost his dignity. The last 6 weeks in a full coma. There were many things God asked me to do. As I said before it was an honor and privilege to honor the vows we took….in good times and bad…..in sickness and health. In God I trusted! I was an avid fan of both of these beautiful people!❤

@@corneliaengland4008I so relate to your experiences… my hubby was sick for 10 yrs, and with several co-morbidities. The associated vascular dementia & depression was the worst as it changed him … the last year we argued every day. Last year when he passed- after 40+ yrs together- the thing that drove me to counseling right away was knowing the guilt & shame potentially would be debilitating. I’m ok today in my grieving knowing I did the best I could at that exhausting time. My faith throughout the journey comforts me that he’s at rest and I’m forgiven of my impatience & frustration. Thank you for sharing your beautiful example . 💕

Giving so much of themselves. God rest his soul and may Marlo find comfort in her love for her husband and her on going fight to end childhood cancer.

"Giving so much of themselves" --- and becoming multi-millionaires while doing it 🤔! Seems quite a few "giving" people somehow become very wealthy 😉!

RIP Mr. Donahue. I have vivid memories rushing home from school to watch the show at 4pm. I loved his kind manner and respectful insights though I didn't always agree with him. I learned open-mindedness and tolerance of others from him in areas where my parents were closed. I am a conservative by nature but appreciate and treasure the topics and conversations he ventured to explore.

I went to his show back in the 80’s, and was disappointed that of all the guests he’d have on with great topics, he had NYC Firemen doing a ‘Cook-off’! Well I have to say, it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable times. Bill and the Firemen got everyone engaged and some of us (me) got to taste what they made. At the end of the show, as we were leaving, Phil stood at the door to thank us for being there and hope we enjoyed his show! What a pure Gentlemen. I remember Marlo and his first meeting, and was so happy they married. They were meant for each other.

Marlo has a voice tone which has enchanted me thoroughly, since childhood! I did not even know they had married back in the day, until very recently. While I would never have guessed this, the two of them seem to make a great couple. Bravo.

What a beautiful soul. He helped so many people with his shows. I guess I forgot he was married to Marlo Thomas and I love the work she did for her dad’s St Jude. It was a place that saved a friend’s granddaughter.

I LOVE, LOVE MARLO. She still has that same little cute laugh. And I thank her family for all they have done for children and their family’s. And Phil….Well, there are just aren’t words to say how thankful the world is that we got to know you through our TV screens through the years. Blessings to you Marlo and the kids and grandkids.

Loved his show. I remember when he interviewed Polly Bergen about the proliferation of hysterectomies in our country. She called it as I recall a hip pocket operation as doctors performed unnecessary operations to put money in their hip pockets. What an eye opener. I was due to have a hysterectomy and went to speak with the dr along with my husband who worked in the operating room and got the promise that I would not need or get a total hysterectomy so I would not need hormone replacement and would not go through an overnight change. I was 35 years old and I am now 81. I recall meeting very young women in the hospital who were given total hysterectomies. They had no idea what had happened to them and the effects to their future health. I recall Polly Bergen saying that men’s private parts were not so cavalierly cut off. It was an eye opener for sure. Forever grateful for that show.
