THE most underrated band ever in rock and roll--DRAKE rocks as great as any of them--PHIL, MARK...the great RAIDERS--too bad this wasn't preserved in better quality

They were darn good musicians. Lindsay was a heckuva showman and could work the crowd.

This is great! I just love hearing Drake's wailing solo guitar playing. Such a great band.

So good to see and hear Drake, Phil and Smitty actually play. All the TV appearences had the music prerecorded.
@dale1956ties5 ай бұрын
Yeah, so many appearances but all were backing tracks. A shame really. Some had Mark's vocals live but the rest were recorded.

Whatever use any band had for a guitarist, Drake "The Kid" would fill the role perfectly. Always surprised - and disappointed me - that Drake never received notice for being the top-rung player he was. 62 is too young to die, but the old adage of the good dying young holds true.

Drake never learned to read music, only chord charts. He would have gotten a lot more studio work if he read music.

Loved this band as a kid....they were fanstastic musicians, but the outfits and onstage antics overshadowed their amazing talent. My fave was Fang. I've always had a thing for bass players.

This was a "Mark Lindsay" show, billed as ML former lead singer, etc "WITH SPECIAL GUESTS FANG, DRAKE& & SMITTY", Mark's band was onstage backing Mark & stayed onstage for the rest of the show. Apparently the venue had a strict curfew about the ending time, so everything was rushed. Sad. There are photos of PR&R IN THE STUDIO working with T.M. Also, the A side of "Here They Come" was recorded before a LIVE AUDIENCE in the studio. Sadly, none of these facts will convince those who will not see.

Three of the five members who made up the classic Raiders lineup are no longer with us. "Smitty," "The Kid," and of course Paul himself. Mark and "Fang" are the only two left.

How is Mr Phil Volk these days? I often went to "Action" tapings, in JrHigh. Also sat in the front row as the Boys played on the Smothers Brothers. Have kinda been a huge fan since then.( Geeze Louise, this is a great video! ) Hope the entire Volk clan is all right.

I WISH!!! I bought this on DVD a long time ago. As I understand things, Phil brought a camera and had friends and or family members do the recording. I'm so glad he did so that we can save this for history.

This may not silence the critics, as there is another drummer playing with Smitty. But, no one can say Drake wasn't a great guitar player.

Hit makers but not quite all originals. IMO Drake was the man as lead guitarists.

No, no problem. I wasn't directing the comments at you as much as I was explaining the presence of the extra musicians. To the best of my knowledge The group of 5 played on the Columbia recordings thru Good Thing. Based on your other posts I know you are a true "RaiderRooter" like me. I always appreciate your comments. They encourage me to keep adding clips. Thanks for posting.

Sarah Fernandes Hard to choose. Since the lineup of Paul,Mark,Fang,Drake, & Smitty were the first that I saw I like them the most. But all incarnations have been good. The current band is great as well, as you can see in the Deland Fl clips on my YT page.

I hope you didn't misunderstand my post. I'm not one of the naysayers. I know it's Smitty playing on all the Raiders recordings from 1963 to at least up the recording of "Sometimes". He was one of the most exciting and energetic rock drummers in those days. And I certainly didn't mean to slight Phil. The only reason I didn't mention him was that this particular song didn't really give him the best opportunity to showcase his chops. Plenty of other KZbin vids do show Phil at his best.

The consensus seems to be that Smitty was the weak link in the reunion - probably hadn't played the drums since leaving the Raiders in 1972. Drake, on the other hand, just got better with age.

Sound suckered. Bad mix.professional guitarist use a silent tuner not live tunings, , and definitely when someone is talking. . I'm aisetime Raiders fan. And to see the real Raiders was great
