Jase’s use of the “crickets” button leads to a debate over the use of excessively simplified or complicated rhetoric when studying the Bible, and Phil becomes the referee. The guys point out all the instances of simplicity in the message of Jesus, as well as examples of deeper philosophical arguments within the text. Jase and Zach agree that Jesus belongs to everyone, whether they’re intelligent or illiterate.
In this episode: Ephesians 6, verses 1-12; 1 Corinthians 1, verses 17-30; 1 Corinthians 2, verses 4-16; 1 Corinthians 4, verses 18-20; Mark 9, verses 38-39; Galatians 3, verses 26-27

@@boorobertson1985 Could it be that you are missing a point? Jesus is glorified by both Zach and Phil & Jase. There are things that the Apostle Paul wrote that were worded in complicated ways and drawn out but his contribution is not dismissed by more simplified writers. There is room for both discussion types because both glorify the Lord.

I love how Al agreed with you regarding people like Lee Strobel. I agree with you and think that you are very bright and ready to take on the Greeks and the Roman's in our current culture. Keep it up, Zach! Your love for Jesus and ability to explain things to people who question is important. We are all needed in the kingdom. Not everyone relates to Christian duck hunters. There is a place for all of us... God has people for us to reach for Jesus because of our life experiences 🙏

I grew up studying the Bible & I am familiar with most of the "big words" Zack has been using. I'm glad to learn more vocabulary that expands my understanding. Jase doesn't like to hear it because he thinks he knows it all & new words (which are not new, they have been used since before Jase was born) reveal that there's more to learn. I don't think restricting language is healthy. Ignore it if you want but stop trying to restrict Zack's language. I wish Jase would embrace the new words instead.

Please pray for me, I’ve always been a “Christian” but never lived my life for him and recently decided to change my life in every way possible. And I pray everyday just as much as I sin but I’m trying to change. For him and for myself. I’m struggling in every way in life atm and I feel as if he doesn’t hear me sometimes but I know I’m truly blessed to even be here I try to be grateful for everything but I know I’m greadyy at times. I think that’s the reason I’m still so stressed and worried so that’s something I’m trying to change. I recently found this podcast and I’m truly greatful as I learn a lot about our lord but I still have a lot more to learn so I can understand more and will hopefully help me be a better Christian and a better man in general. So please pray for me as I dedicate my life to Christ and learn and be better. Thanks you

I disagree with Phil respectfully in that the Kingdom of God is made up of many levels of intellect. In the book Job God talked about his creation and the complexity of it. It is peppered through out the bible - all of creation is a reflection of the creator. That includes all levels of intellect. People like Zach have deeper thoughts; I would argue that this is by design and the Lord would have it that way on purpose. As long as all come to Jesus and receive salvation through Jesus and the gospel is not watered down - then why would Zach's contribution to discussions be put down? I know where Phil is coming from but there is room at the table for both presentations, so long as Jesus is glorified.

As someone who didn't grow up in church.😢.. as an adult i heard preaching on the radio that said YOU MUST NOT QUESTION ANYTHING ABOUT GOD. I heard so many things that i thought any time i messed up i had to get saved again... over and over. People talk about never forgetting when they were saved. which gave me something else to feel guilty about. 13 years ago i was able to be off on Sundays and i went to church the first Sunday...then my husband started going too. I'm so thankful. We finally found the place God wanted us to be. My wonderful church family helped me when the Lord called my husband of over 39 years Home..and still do 2 1/2 years later. Thank You Jesus!!! ❤❤❤D

I think what's more important than whether the conversation is simple or intellectual using "big words", is to understand the audience you're preaching, teaching, or speaking too. If the person you are speaking too is ver intellectual then speak as intellectually as you are able. If your audience is not of the intellectual type, then keep the gospel simple. I think narrowing down to only one way of teaching and preaching can leave certain audiences out of gaining more knowledge of the gospel, which is part of the great commision.

You can express the word as simply or as creatively as you wish...as long as you are scripturally accurate .. If your words change the intention of the scripture, that's when it's wrong... PERIOD... Jase and Phil aren't wrong, we don't need to add to or take away from the word which I believe was Jase's intention.... Zach isn't wrong either as long as his words convey the scripture accurately....I respect all their opinions, and appreciate the conversation...All opinions are valuable, and I don't think we need to bash ANY of them...

We all learn and understand in different ways because we are ALL different. Whether it’s a “big” word or a “simple” word. Thank you Zach for pushing us to learn. And thank you Phil for keeping it simple. Jase, settle down. 😊

How this discussion “appears”: the two who don’t seem to be “formally” trained, ‘argue’ against “bigger words and thoughts”….And, Jase, to my very simplistic, ‘untrained ear’, your ‘argument’ changed two, three, even four times as the discussion went on. Bottom line- we are all human beings made by God. He gave us all diverse ways of acting, thinking, talking. Paul said he became all to all, that some might be saved. We can, should, do no less! God bless! Keep teaching us about Jesus-simple, diverse, profound, righteous!

I like Zach’s vocabulary. He can get out there too far for me, but I still like hearing what he has to say. He can say what he says and I’ll make my own mind up on what to believe through my discernment. Look: Jesus spoke in parables to the groups of people, but not to the disciples. Paul taught to the gentiles. Peter to the Jews. If that way speaks to you, chances are it will speak to another. ❤ I like apologetics, but it isn’t my main or only study. I use it for specific subjects like the creation story or something more science related. I don’t think it should be a separate theology, but I feel that way about most theologies. ❤

Instead of eschatology, just say the study of future things, instead of soteriology just say the study of salvation ... Instead of propitiation, simply define it: God's wrath towards men has been satisfied by Christ's sacrifice ... Convey the truth as simply as possible. I have quite a bit of theological training I understand the big terms and theological arguments, but we don't have to use those words when our audience is not a seminary.

I think there's a real disconnect here... intelectual doesn't require big words that most people don't understand. Intelectual simply requires a deeper understanding of a matter. Bigger words does not equal greater understanding. When speaking in a public forum, what is important is that those who are listening understand what is being communicated. Therefore, using words which all the listeners will understand is quite important, unless you are intentionally wanting some people to not understand. This happens often when people know a different language and they want to have a conversation that they do not want others nearby to understand. Same principal. It's much easier/ efficient to say things in such a way that people understand without having to stop mid-conversation to define a word. Not only that, but doing so causes a break in following what's being said and cause some people to tune out.

The answer to the first argument is simple. The beauty of The Gospel and the things of God is that they are both simple and complex at the same time. For those that enjoy pontificating The Word and dissecting it from every angle, it can stand up to that. For the man who likes to keep things simple and maybe doesn't think it complex ways, its powerful enough on the surface to hold up to that as well.

Great perspectives from all & some truth to each of the positions but the "Just me & my Bible" approach is unbiblical. There are godly people who aren't intelligent, & I believe God gives grace in those situations, but the way it applies to the norm: "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ," Ephesians 4:11‭-‬12 ESV

Zach do not change. I only have a high school education, but I like to read. I have read Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Dallas Willard, AJ Tozier, and others. Many of these were a hard read for me, and it was a slow go. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t helpful. I’m not sure why Jase thinks no one knows these words. I hope Zach will continue on just as he has. At least they aren’t talking about the ticket!
