I've been hearing about Phil Hartman for years now from various people and how he was a genius and all that. Today was my first time actually thinking "you know what? I think it's time to look him up". Didn't even look familiar, but from the get go his cadence, speed, and comic mind really made me be so attentive to what's happening and soak it in. I go into the comments, and I see people saying "what a tragedy" "lost too soon" "I still can't process his loss". Me not knowing anything about him, I google him. Ok death this year, spouse this, kids that... wait, murder-suicide by his deranged wife. I couldn't believe it!! 49 years old?! so young! he was still working and still very much relevant and very much very good! for all these years i had no idea, but now i know...this is truly one of the great tragedies of the comedy world, and to some..it was biggest. Not only has she murdered him but in people's minds, the tragedy completely encompasses what brilliant and awesome joy he brought to us, the common folks watching him... Phil was a very unique talent and it's a tragedy he's gone. He would have kept us laughing for decades to come. Even though he's gone I'm still laughing at the things he did. Fantastic impersonations.

He was the master, funnier impressions than anyone.

I've heard alot of great stories about his friendship with Jon Lovitz, those 2 on SNL for years what a great time that had to be.

I met Phil at NBC and spent an hour talking to him one late night. A nicer, more down-to-earth person you will never meet. His biography (You Might Remember Me) and ending bring me sadness. I miss him.

Why did he have an hour to spend talking to a stranger?

Post SNL hang. Other cast were there. Phil was very gracious. The '90s were a simpler time.

Although I wanted to watch all of this, I did not think I wanted to sit for 2 hours straight, but this was so enjoyable and funny I ended up watching it all straight through. It really hits a peak at 01:20:00-1:30:00. I watched that part several times. Phil you were awesome !!!

Phil and his son were robbed of a wonderful life shared together. A cultured and literate, brilliant man.

Daughter, too. Phil had a daughter named Birgen Hartman. Both Sean & Birgen were robbed. Finish your homework, John.

Gone, but never forgotten. That was a very sad day when he was killed. I'll never forget the utter sadness at the whole situation. I miss him still.

Ooof, right in the gut... why you have to remind people of this? Why be such a buzz kill? What benefit you get from typing out this morbid trivia? \ I hope they had a good life and a fulfilled adulthood.

Dave had to be on his game. When you have a witty, intelligent and hilarious guest like Phil Hartman, you had to make sure he didn't end up laughing at you instead of with you. The man was a comedic genius with every character he ever portrayed, completely believable. That man literally made me laugh until I hurt.

Phil and Sinatra died just a few weeks apart. That was a lousy month. Phil truly was "the glue". He was in the cast when I reached the age to watch SNL every week, and was always brilliant.

Just two weeks apart, to be exact. Exactly 14 days apart. Kind of eerie.
