I never watched him, then on a short video I liked him. As well I have also come to realize, we have a lot in common, excluding his success, and ability and years of psychological degrees and training. Tennis, motorcycle, people watcher those are the things I enjoy. His family background is similar to mine as well. Its nice to watch and hear someone I can relate to.

I enjoy him too and when I say it in public people, give me a funny look, and then they listen and realize, you can’t fake where it’s coming from. Real recognizes real.

Wow! I'm 74 years old and all that Dr. Phil shared spoke to me! I kept waiting for him to say "and you are never too old".. But I'm here to tell you that you are never too old to learn from and apply principles from this podcast.. Ordinary people can do extraordinary things! Quit making excuses and telling yourself you are too old... Nothing wrong with having to modify for where you are to succeed..

Dr. Phil I love this podcast. You’re a very knowledgeable person. I learned a lot from this. I’ve been connecting the dots of my life, being able to understand fully why I am the person I am. I’m not the hero in my story, nor am I a victim. I know I am a villain but unfortunately I am also a fool and a scapegoat. I was a teen mom and while my parents did not throw me out, in hindsight they most definitely should have because my character and image was shredded to pieces, everyone and anyone in my neighborhood knew the entire story. And I live in nyc…. This is not a small town by any means… they speak so ill of me, I’ve gotten hate mail from other people and been harassed and stalked by countless people. All because of my own parents…

An extraordinary person, is an ordinary person, with extraordinary amounts of determination. One of my favorite quotes. However, I lived it. It was a self fulfilling prophecy. Not just a quote I liked. That quote, I thought to myself, sounds doable. AND it was.

Brilliant podcast as always are hugely informative educational and insightful. Taking responsibility for your words and actions is extremely important to hear about the same-sex parent being the most important person in a child's life. That is new to me in terms of research and validation.

Thank you for saying these things that feel so true. After my 30's, i really noticed that i wasn't living the life i deserved, i really had to start living by design of i was ever going to make what i "had" match what i thought i "deserved" in a positive way

A BIG one for me was to compete with only myself. Top my last best. It started with the love of & self discipline in gymnastics. I didn't do it at school, competing with others. I did it because I loved &rr enjoyed it. Then the same at college. Wound up with the highest grade in the entire school in psychology department. I'm not genius, by the way. I simply did the very best that I could possibly do. Even if I earned a D, it was an A+ to me. It was never about a grade or if someone else was better or worse at it. Just that my best was good enough for me. The beautiful payoff was that there was no stress & I enjoyed whatever I was doing. Literally was invited to medical school & PhD program from doing the best I could. Believe me, to this day I still cannot believe those miracles Happened to me !

The problem with this podcast is the assumption that people can CHOOSE to see reality. All those champions were innately able to see reality and take action accordingly. Then there is the rest of us who, because we were certain personality types who had certain kind of abuse as kids, were INCAPABLE of seeing REALITY and, therefore had no choice until maybe later in life after a lot of therapy. In our family my sister saw reality and acted like those champs. I did not and spent most of my life in therapy. I have healed. However, it totally grates on me when psychologists say things like these. They ARE MENTAL much of the time so they simply seem incapable of getting what it’s like being trapped in a reality that’s false and doesn’t allow you to make good choices for yourself. I have clients who are psychologists. They are the most feelingless, disconnected people I ever see. Anyway, annoyed by all this because it’s because of people like Dr. Phil saying these types of things that made my life REALLY hard and made it hard to heal. But thank God, there are other types of therapists who can help and I was fortunate enough to find some besides making gigantic, gigantic efforts on my own.

I'm so happy to hear you've sought help for your issues, and sound like your're doing much better now. For as much Dr. Phil as I've watched, I don't agree with plenty of what he says. I can't relate, whatsoever, to his happy ass, perfect life. I don't care about sports. I don't have a family I can count on. They just don't care. I can understand and appreciate your point of view. Keep moving forward. When it comes to Dr. Phil - and most things I've experienced in life - I take with me what's "good" and try to forget the "bad". I don't think he gave any "bad" advice here. It's just unrealistic to believe it can be applied succesfully to anyone. (How am I supposed to fix a family unit that wants nothing to do with me?) I've suffered plenty of trauma, as well. Here's my reality: figure it out on your own, because there's NO ONE here to turn to.

@@unlistedandtwisted That’s so nice you took the time to respond. I am sorry it’s been hard for you, too. What always gives me comfort is that we CAN heal, that healing is possible. Just have to make the effort. Yes, I also have found myself feeling as if I was alone in this, having to figure it out on my own, but I also know that that kind of thinking is part of the original abandonment problem and being unable to trust the caretakers. I am working on that now, trying to bring trustworthy, caring people into my life, somehow open to receive the available good that’s out there. And, I agree, needing to be discerning about the information giver. Dr. Phil is mostly a 3-D guy - he doesn’t include the spiritual life, so that totally limits his advice. However, I think he is addressing where MOST people are in their spiritual growth and for me it’s useful to hear some basic stuff about living on earth. Blessings.

@@debrakrch-ur8wv I’ve watched the Fairy. Difficult childhood. The things she presents is early healing, material I covered decades ago. I think what’s really, really important and that it’s usually not talked about, is to realize when you’ve moved on. We DO move on. We just have to recognize we did. I knew someone who for decades saw the same psychologist and still talks that same story. It’s an easy way for therapists to make money. Anyway, I hope you keep a keen eye on your healing and move on ……. By the way, most talk therapists are limited and take a long time. Body-centered therapies like Core Energetics and Core Evolution actually create real healing.
