I only met Phil once. He took time to give me a golf lesson! Afterwards he invited me into the clubhouse to have a few beers. Then i woke up, put my work boots on, drove to work, punched the time clock, and did 12 hours of production work.

I took my son to Quail Hollow when Phil was in a tournament. I think he was about 12 years old. When Phil was walking from one green to the next tee my son was excited and cheered Phil as he went by. Phil reached out and gave my son a fist 🤜 bump. He will always be number one in my book.

JonathanAnon I am guessing you have zero talent when it comes to golf, Phil got frustrated on the golf course and actually did what 99.99% of hackers do every round. Of the US Open just once would set up a course with some common sense that wouldn’t get criticized every damm year

Phil is the BEST. I am fortunate enough to be a member at one of his clubs and have talked to him many times. Phil is the most humble/cool guy in the room, but more humble than cool. He had to be raised by the greatest humans ever. First class guy and talked to me like he was just another member of the club, not like he was PHIL. Most genuine guy you could ever meet and the type of guy that you would pray that your daughter would marry. First class human being, way better human than golfer, by far.

I actually interrupted Phil when he was talking to some man (turned out he was a sponsor. I didn't know) and I told him what a big fan I was and asked him to sign my hat. He looked annoyed at first, but then smiled and said, "Well, with the way I've been playing lately, if you're still a big fan, I need to make sure I don't lose you," and signed my hat.

I got to meet Phil Mickleson at Macgregor Downs when he was in college at Arizona state. Dude is so cool, he showed me his putter which at the time I was mesmerized by "Arnold Palmer" mirror chrome blade. He took pictures with me pulled out a ball he used during the round and signed it for me. I was like 11 years old at the time. I have never forgot that and he will always be my favorite golfer!

Rory walked past my son at Troon 2016 on the way to the clubhouse. My son was really excited to see him and he didn't even just say hello on the way by. He didn't have to stop, just a nod and hello to make a kids day.

I had the pleasure of meeting Phil at the BMW at Aronimink CC a couple years ago. I had caddied for a buddy in the pro-am and along with a couple other caddies, walked into the clubhouse looking for a cold beer. It was hot that day...really hot. He was in there so I introduced myself (like he cared) and he looked me in the eye, extended his hand, and thanked me for "helping out" that day. Very sincere.

2005 Pebble Beach, practice green before Phil's final round. Phil and Tiger were the last two players. Tiger and Steve left to the 1st Tee and "Bones" went inside the shop to grab some waters. Phil walked over to his bag, about 5 feet from me, looked up and said "Hi, how you doing?" I said "Great, how do you like those Callaway Irons? I'm playing the same ones, but facing the right way." He laughed and said he loves them. I told him "Congrats on your win in Phoenix last week 'Sun Devil'" and he replied "Thanks, did you go to ASU too?" I replied "Yup, couple years before you". This is a multimillionaire who struck up a conversation with me (Mr. Nobody) before he started his final round of Pebble against Tiger Woods. How genuine this man really is! I will always be a Phil Phan!

It never occurred to me to get a "celebrities" autograph. They don't ask for mine, I don't ask for theirs. Had a few beers with a few. I just pretend I don't recognize them, and that's usually the case, until later, and then it's like, pretty cool.

Phil blew me off, in away. I sent him a cartoon I co-made with a caption about a golfer based on him at the British Open. It was newspaper quality and had a good message he'd agree with, I know. My collaborator was a pro illustrator. I offered it to him with no copyright, but he never even responded.

Jim Bouton told a similar story about Alvin Dark, the 1940s-50s MLB shortstop and '60s-'70s manager. He said that when he was a kid, he tried to get Dark's autograph at the Polo Grounds and Dark told him to get lost. When a reporter asked Dark about that he said: "That's a lie. I didn't even know Bouton when he was a kid."

No kidding. At the WGC in Mexico City in 2018, he was out signing autographs and talking to fans literally up to his tee time....he finally had to tell them "sorry, but I've got to go play. I'll sign after the round" In Spanish. Seems like a really good dude.

That’s interesting. I remember seeing Jordan paired with Ian Poulter at the Byron Nelson tournament. They walked within 6 feet from where I was sitting. I wished both of them good luck with the tournament. They looked at me as if I was an ghost, not even responding with a simple thank you. I’ll never forget that moment. Pretty damn disrespectful. So, I can relate, Jordan.
