Beyond Nature is one of the most amazing instrumental acoustic albums I have ever heard. I absolutely recommend this album to anyone with any sense of taste in music

Thank you Phil for giving us this timeless treasure beyond words. And thank you God for giving us Phil. This is some of the finest guitar playing...nay the finest music I've ever heard. It is so concise and efficient in it's ability to move your heart in the most profound way. This is music that speaks to the core of my being. A priceless gift.

Phil's getting quite a bit older now (aren't we all).. I remember around this time he said it was a special place in his life, and that a lot of his best music came from that time. Sort of makes you wish we could pick a place in our lives.. and just stay there for a while longer.

Keaggy is my hero. Only makes me want to try harder as an artist to learn everything I can and not give up. If he can do this amazing stuff with 9 fingers I certainly can do my best with all 10.

Phil is a brilliant technician, but his musicality is what makes him stand out. You'll never hear him play a scale. I'm not a Christian, but music is music, and this guy is amazing. If you don't listen to Phil because you don't agree with his religion, I say you're closed minded and missing some beautiful music.

Song inspired by C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien's friendship if I'm not mistaken? hence the name: a road they walked near oxford many evenings talking about faith.

Beautiful use of harmonic in the melody. I love that, I am off to learn that right now.. hold on.. whats the tuning?
@MADdwarfWorkshop14 жыл бұрын
they were best friends. they started a club at oxford called the inklings. Tolkien brought Lewis into understanding & embracing of the Christian faith. Its a really cool story, search it up. There's a few good documentaries to.
@Insigma8317 жыл бұрын
OK I think I learned the beautiful harmonic bit. Actually the tuning is slightly different from what I said. I think its C# A# F C# G# C. Which is drop D for both E strings, and tune the G-string down to an F# then tune everything down half a step and you got it. Its a pain to do but its worth it. The lovely harmonics are played: 220100 as the chord with the left hand and xx12x12 12 as the harmonic played with the right hand slap. Have fun
@joeytherocket17 жыл бұрын
It seems like theres a lot of confusion on the tuning. In the booklet that comes with the CD, it says the tuning is DADF#BD.
@mholdren9514 жыл бұрын
Wow, I'm a guitarist and whenever I watch Phil go at it on guitar like this, it takes my confidence down a whole level just because of what the man can do on a guitar haha. But I've always admired how he does that slapping technique that I've seen him do before at about 0:52. If there's anybody that could gove me some tips in how to do something like that, that would be great.
@ianlarrimore8 Жыл бұрын
Sorry this is 12 years late, but if you or anyone is reading this, the trick to harmonic tapping is using the soft pad of your finger (after the last joint) to quickly tap the string directly over a harmonic node. When tapping an open string, 12th fret (1 octave up) and 19th fret (1 fifth up) are the easiest to coax a good sound out of, but any node will technically work. When fret a note, you move the harmonic node further up, and you need to tap the string at that new point (for starters, try getting a harmonic note 12 frets up from where you are fretting).
@ianlarrimore8 Жыл бұрын
Phil alternates between his first and third fingers (maybe allows ring and little fingers to strike together, not sure) by sort of pivoting his wrist. Many suggest that the fact that he's missing his middle finger makes this tapping technique easier, but Scott Dente, after pointing this out to teenage me at a concert, told me something like, "But don't do anything crazy." Keeping the last joint of the tapping fingers relaxed really helps get more note and less attack.

cheers for that you are correct, however the entire guitar is lowered half a step too. See its dropped down to Db or C# whatever you prefer
@fuzzguitarra211 жыл бұрын
just tap the strings with your picking hand really solftly in the correct places (the 12thfret in this case) it's more like a slight flick. check out the andy timmons' song "electric gypsy" you can listen to that technique more clearly there
