Phil Keaggy + John Sferra + Daniel Pecchio = GLASS HARP --- This is live at the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin, Pa. on Aug 26, 2011. This is as close to the epic live version of CAN YOU SEE ME (get Live at Carnegie Hall CD) as they have come in a long time. I am not sure why they didn't do the end piece here, but it was incredible nonetheless!! Percussionist Tom Shelley joined the band for the evening.. If you are looking for GLASS HARP CDs and DVDs, go to www.glassharp.net or www.philkeaggy.com

I am happy I was able to share something that you enjoyed! The guys just keep getting better all the time! I can't imagine what it would be like if they did serious tours of more than a weekend or two every year! Thanks for posting your thoughts!!

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for this man's music. When my head gets filled with things that I don't want to think about I think of songs from the album Emerging or from the album Song in the air... And it gets my mind away from that garbage that's trying to feed my brain with corruption. Like I said this mans music has saved my life many times over. But it's an endless battle and it goes on day by day and I don't know how much more I can take this world. People are so hateful and deceitful I just don't know how much more I can take.

This has been bugging me so I'm gonna say it. I grew up listening to these guys. I use to call Captain Akers radio program on WAUP every day when I was like 14 and request 'any Glass Harp song" I loved them so much. Phil inspired me to play the guitar and all that. I've noticed that over these many years Phil has never acheived that same tone he did when he was using his old LP into Fender twin set-up. Don't get me wrong, he still sounds amazing, but every time I see him he's constntly fiddling around with his gear. Watch him on that live TV show from 1972 and he's not doing that, he's just focused on his playing. Likewise the technology that they use on the drums these days seems to have sucked the life out of John's playing. It just 'gets in the way' of the dynamics that made this band so special. I don't know, maybe I'm just missing the old days. Sorry I'm so late to the game on this one but I just listened to the first album all the way through for the first time in awhile and this video popped up so I thought I would jump on in and piss everyone off with my opinion.

It's a damn shame, too. So much talent. I guess it's the best kept secret in music. So glad I'm in the small crowd of people who know about this.

Phil was using a Vox AC30 and a Fender Deluxe (I think Hot Rod) - There was a sweet spot that was unreal. I stood directly to his left about 6 to 10 feet away (for a song, as we were taking turns at the spot) and the tone was amazing! He was playing loud, but clean.. He tends to like a ROUTE 66 pedal a lot. I will see if I can find some video (or at least a photo) of his pedals if you like. The show they did in May was equally fine, but they decided to turn down the volume on stage.

I used to go see Glass Harp play nearly every week at Kent State around 1970. I have every album and love listening to the music to this day. I would love to hear them in concert again should they ever be in the Detroit area where I now live or even in Cleveland.

The whole video is good, but from 13:53 on... Oh. My. God. And I don't say that lightly, it was like a combination of Steve Howe, Brian May, Steve Via, and Al DiMeola-or something equally amazing. The ending is truly hilarious!! Poor old Phil just ran out of notes, & was almost apologetically humble for having just played one of the most exciting 4-plus minutes of rock/jazz guitar ever played. The tone he got out of that guitar at the end is something I need to incorporate into my own playing!!

John Sferra told me that they were scheduled to play in Kent that night, but they didn't play. I will check with him to see if they were cancelled or declined because of the shootings. He did tell me one time, but I am not sure which was the reason. Either way, probably a good idea to stay home..

Phil is pretty short. Kinda comical how big that Les Paul (not very large bodied guitars) looks on him. But hes handling it no problem.

I'm curious how many great guitarists were good in math when they were kids? If anyone out there considers themselves an above-average guitarist (or other musician), I'd love to know whether you were. It would be interesting to know how much of a connection there is between the two... Thanks!

his guitar work is just great. the type of music he plays can't be compared to a hendrix by any means, but he is still a master at what he does with his rare tallent i feel.

Sorry, jdg62269.....but I have a dvd copy of that entire cavett show with hendrix and no where does he say that... so let's put that rumor to rest. In fact Cavett made the statement that...."that some say you're the greatest guitar player in the world" to which Hendrix responded with a sheepish grin and looking down and waved it of with a " i don't know"
@mulemusic

Somehow that rumor started 40 years ago. Phil will be the first one to tell you he's never seen a video of the statement being made! But why not just let it go! It hasn't hurt or hindered his career! I had a friend (who passed away a couple of years ago) who went by Disker Randy. He would travel a lot, and when he could, he would frequent libraries in search of any and all articles he could find on GLASS HARP and Phil. He had the most extensive list of performance dates and articles of anyone I have known. By his research, it would have been almost impossible for Jimi to have heard GLASS HARP before his death. They were finishing up the first album in ELECTRIC LADY STUDIOS (Jimi's New York Studio for anyone who may not know this) on the day prior to his death. Chip Killinger (former GLASS HARP manager - R.I.P. Chip!) told me personally that the morning they walked into Electric Lady to gather up their gear to go home, that people were somber and crying because they had just gotten word that Jimi had passed. He also told me about some people at the studio grabbing Jimi's tapes off the shelf to walk out with. Chip was a wonderful man and he jumped all over those guys! He had respect and was giant in my eyes! So, that is a timeline of sorts. When Disker Randy passed, he left his entire collection of GLASS HARP and Phil Keaggy albums, cassettes, 8 tracks, CDs, memorabilia and clippings to the band.. (also, he had a massive collection of CDs, and records pressed in various countries, as well as an incredible collection of live audio and video concerts) He was a great guy and left it to those he admired! The band has that effect on people.. as fine as musicians, they are even nicer people! Here is a link to a song the band did in memory of Randy the evening we all found out he was gone... chhayden15 First? Who gives a crap? Second? I just stated that its likely Hendrix knew of Keaggy. They didnt just record in the same studio. Keaggy recorded in HIS studio. When theres a hot player word spreads like wildfire. Especially someone like Keaggy who I think everyone knows Van Halen absolutely did refer to as the 'greatest guitar player in the this hemisphere' Thats a way cooler compliment than from Hendrix who was a very average guitarist technically. Probably below average. He just had a lot of energy and personality and it made up for other lacks.

chhayden15 No it isnt. It happened. Google it. It was 1983. I remember because I was a little kid and my brother had a magazine and showed it to me. I actually looked it up when I watched this video. I dont know what youre glitch is kid. The fact that a Christian is a freakin incredible guitar player? lol Is that your problem? Are ya that stupid?
