Possibly the most unrecognized and talented guitarist on the planet. His giftedness is seemingly bottomless. An underappreciated giant.

Fripp, Beck, Gilmour, Manzanera - the BLUES brother tone gods! Of course, there are many more, but as for blues-influenced rock guitarists who play with amazing feeling and extraordinary tone, these are guys who have set the bar exceptionally high!

Truly one of great and underrated guitarists.

I've met lots of famous people. But if I met Phil Manzanera I would probably make a fool of myself. He's been such a beautiful inspiration to me and I can hear his unmistakable guitar tone and be instantly transformed into a place where I want to go. One of my very favorites who is equally comfortable with classic rock as well as progressive sounding stuff. He's able to fuse genres together and have them sounding original and sensible.

I don't even particularily like his solo stuff but as a guitarist I recognize his style and technique which makes him one of my favorite guitarists. There's a lot of those of course and I can't place them in a numbered order. It's about originality, tone, style, technique, diversity etc. and in diffrent genres. I adore Phil's stuff with Roxy Music.

Roxy Music seems like one of thos bands where more people are officially involved though. More can join in. But a magical early line up, if we're being romantic.

aint it good when you hear a guitarist that can put heart and soul into his music.GENIUS!

A great guitar player must be able to evoke a feeling or emotions, there's no teaching it to a player. Either you can or you can't. Phil Manzanera definitely can!

I love when I think I'm the only one whose ever heard of a song - and I find awesome live posts of these songs. Everyone seems to know it from "801" - but his guitarissimo album is just amazing...

I was 10 years old when 801 came out. I didn't know if any other 10 year old listening to 801, Roxy, Fripp. Etc. Thank God for my older brother that I should aquire the taste of the finest music ever made.

One of the most creative avantgarde guitarists to ever live....unostentacious and severely overlooked he will always be a TOP 5 guitarist and artist to me. Robert Fripp, Steve Howe, Mick Ronson, and Randy Gardiner would be on that list as well.

@@joe22589 I couldn't agree more. Ron, 801 Live was a groundbreaking recording, featuring some of the best musicians out there, along with the electronic wizardry of Brian Eno, who also performed. It's great to see Phil here, still displaying prodigious skill on his signature composition, but 801 Live is an absolute masterpiece and levels above this...

Sounds better without the horns and with another electric guitar playing their riff. That was what gave the song muscle when it wasn't in the spacey sections.

Sorry Phil as much as I like your composition s you are not what I call a live player, very poor live with 801 or RM. Seen you with 801 at the Odeon New Street Birmingham in the seventies just after seeing Van Halen, ok different player but not a leader of a band like Gary Moore or Rory Gallagher. But I bought all your records.
@Beanybob2 жыл бұрын
See why you put Bills bass guitar on the front of 801 live to deflect your poor performance sorry Phil but you surrounded yourself with good musicians and got away with it
