There are few good versions of this song. Tim Buckley's original is one. But for me, the version which made it astonishing, magical and transporting was Elizabeth Fraser's haunting rendition in 1983. Robert Plant's is the third. There are no others which compare.

There are many beautiful versions of this, but none matches the beautiful simplicity of Tim. Tho you can't deny Robert loves this song and Tim. This has been one of my continual favorites since the day I bought the album decades ago. I lost the album, and almost cried when I found it on YT. I'm thrilled to know it is stilled loved by so many people.

Long afloat on shipless oceans I did all my best to smile 'Til your singing eyes and fingers Drew me loving to your isle And you sang Sail to me Sail to me Let me enfold you Here I am Here I am Waiting to hold you Did I dream you dreamed about me? Were you here when I was forced out Now my foolish boat is leaning Broken lovelorn on your rocks For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow Oh my heart, Oh my heart shies from the sorrow" Well I'm as puzzled as the newborn child I'm as riddled as the tide Should I stand amid the breakers? Or should I lie with death, my bride? Hear me sing, "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you"

When one learns and sings The Song To The Siren, one gets taken by the song, in a way no other song seems to accomplish... There is something alluring about the whole piece, its frequencies, its cadences and the sheer beauty of the poem that became Tim Buckley's song. . Elizabeth Frazer did a remarkable job of covering this, a song so suited to her individual style of singing, likewise a perfect fit for Bob Plant. Well done !
