In this first in a series of shop tour videos, I am showing off his Lumber Rack, but with the way I use this versatile system it may be better described as a material storage station.
I hope you enjoyed this video and please let me know what you would like to see next in my shop.
You can find the step-by-step plans to this Multipurpose Lumber Center here: www.woodsmithplans.com/plan/m...

Thanks Phil. You made me a happy person. That being, knowing that I'm not the only woodworker that never met a cutoff he couldn't find value in. Hoping the next one is soon. JimE

It's a struggle. I pieces have a value, but that doesn't mean it's the kind of project I want to build with it. After posting, I know there are things that I need to use or get rid of.

Great video Phil! My shop is also a submarine space. Can’t wait for the other videos.

Thank you. The narrow footprint has some advantages to go along with its constraints.

Thanks Phil it is very inspiring. Look forward to your next video. My shop is a 24 x 40 metal garage. Normally I can only be out there for 3 seasons.

The dead of winter is tough for me. I'd like to insulate the rest of the garage. But that turns into another set of projects that I don't know if I'm ready to tackle yet.

Thanks for the tour. I know what you are talking about with wood storage, including sheet goods. We all improvise to fit in the space we have.

And try to be as deliberate as we can with what gets kept.

So cool to see your shop. My wood storage is very similar with the cubby holes that I find extremely useful for hoarding wood for smaller projects.

Those cubbies are the best feature, I believe. I've changed how they're used in the time that shelving has been in my shop. Probably will change some more.

Can’t wait for more. If you can I’d love to see a photos of the workbench evolution. I think you’ve had three?

This is so cool, I have almost the identical shop layout, just a couple feet bigger. I am very curious to see the rest of your shop to see how you overcame size constraints!

Totally. It is very important to put things away as soon as you are done with it so work spaces don’t fill up and not have any work space.

Hey Phil, nice video. Just curious, is your flooring the tounge-n-groove square tiles with the plastic grid underneath? I've used that in another room. Considering it for my similar sized wood shop.
@WoodsmithShowandmagazine
@WoodsmithShowandmagazine Ай бұрын
I considered that option. Instead, I went with the tongue and groove OSB sheets with the dimpled plastic underlayment from Menards. It comes in a big roll. Same effect but cost less

Would be nice to get a quick view of the whole space first before the details of the storage area so we could have some context. You described the submarine-like space but I really want to see it.

Yeah, I was trying to figure out the best way to do that. I have some ideas. Thanks for the suggestion.

@@WoodsmithShowandmagazine I'm sure it is challenging to capture such a space on video.

@@NG-ow4ii I mentioned in the video how the camera flattens out the appearance of the shelving. Things are sorted the way I like and gives me a structure for keeping what I can use.

Gentleman, now that you have acquired Fine Woodworking can you please take a page outta their book and use the easy off address label so those of us that like to save our magazines and view what’s on the cover, can do so. I’m looking at you Pop Wood. Thanks.
@WoodsmithShowandmagazine

We had those labels for the longest time and I'm not entirely sure why the switch got made. Probably from too many falling off in the mail system. Some days feels like there's no winning.
