I remember listening to The 4 Tops and Supremes version when I was 6. Fast forward to 1991 and I purchased the Phil Spector Back To Mono box set(which included the classic Christmas album). When I heard this version, I was blown away by the overall power of this production. It was and still is powerful to this day. I was surprised that Tina Turner was not the intended singer. It was Darlene Love. But Darlene didn’t have the range for the song. So, Phil brought it to Ike and Tina Turner and played it on his guitar and Tina took up the challenge. River Deep, Mountain High was one of Phil Spector’s iconic masterpieces.
