Destin Legarie sat down with Phil Spencer to discuss all things Xbox. The future of the brand and its strategy were a highlight. I found it to be very insightful and exciting honestly. The Xbox seems more interesting to me than what PS currently is doing.

I have both systems but I will say one thing about one of the major differences. Until playstation does a 1000% better job at customer service and corporate security (eg: Imsomniac Hack) then their ecosystem will never come close to Xbox's. Microsoft's and by extension Xbox's customer service is one of the best in the world. That is a major reason why Xbox is my preferred console out of the 2. Also, there's no games that I want to play on it that can't play on the Xbox.

This is a fantastic level headed breakdown of the strategy, however the hardware element of it is still the part I don't understand. E.g. With this strategy why would someone who currently owns a PS5 or PC purchase a Series X? Alternatively why would new players entering the market buy a Series X when PC/PS will give them access to more games? -------------------- IF the rumoured strategy for the new Xbox hardware is this PC-hybrid supporting Steam/Epic then why would: Individuals purchase games from Windows Store rather than Steam? Why would devs produce a Windows Store version of their games when they only need to create a Steam version (which will be also playable on the new Xbox hardware)? --------- If the answer to all of the above is GamePass I think that's a huge gamble IMO and could lead to their hardware becoming unviable. Alternatively if its 'powerful hardware' they have been touting that since the Xbox One X to no success.

If you want the cost saving exclusive features of the ecosystem with GP and the discounts the sub gives you as well as the day/date savings you could possible see the hardware as “better”. Also of the hardware has features others do not like modular/portable. Other OS/stored for access to more games I.e. Steam store and PS games on PC on your new XB. Lot of things that make hardware a choice over another besides exclusive game.

@@WorryWartWorld Great points, I personally think GamePass will be the main defining feature going forward. I think we need to know more about the new hardware and until they tell us I think will likely damage the brand further, mainly because the current strategy doesn't work with the Series S/X (IMO). If the hardware isn't pitched correctly I currently do wonder why most people wouldn't just go to PC/PC Handhelds (which also have GamePass) or the other competitors. If you look at other publishers like EA they have their own subscription service, their own store and release their games everywhere therefore the boundaries are starting to blur. Plus if Xbox plans to compete with Steam and Epic in the PC store market they are going to have a really tough time, considering specific PC games (e.g Fortnite/Dota 2) are exclusive to their stores.

@@WorryWartWorld No it is just a sub service that is largely stagnant. People buy a PS5 for console exclusives like FF Rebirth, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West etc.

You don't seem to think critically about what Phil said. If GP was such an enticing option why are their subs not at 100 million? People have NO PROBLEM paying money to play great games rather than trying a handful of games on a service.

Its a nice ideal to differentiate by hardware but Xbox just became the biggest 3rd party publisher in the world. Their business is now very reliant in the other platforms its own hardwarecant be THAT different tbh.

What are they "winning" though, the idea of any of the big 3 winning anything is an old way of thinking and as gamers should be the furthest thing from our minds. Hell gaming as a whole would be better if all 3 worked together, like imagine Halo Studios and Guerrilla Games collab on Halo or hell new ip(i know it will never happen).

phil was asked "why choose xbox" and he couldn't answer it directly. i just don't see a USP when the games delivered are not fun
