This 12 1/4 inch wide and 1 1/2 thick 'custom-color' guitar weighs 7.40 lbs. and has a nut width of just under 1 5/8 inches and a 'full' scale length of 24 inches. Solid alder asymmetrical double-cutaway body with 'offset waist' (like a Mustang). One-piece maple neck with Indian rosewood "slab-board" fretboard with 21 frets and pearloid dot position markers. Individual 'two-line' Kluson Deluxe tuners with white plastic oval buttons with "D-169400 / PATENT NO." inside. Headstock with "Fender" in gold with black trim and beneath that ""Duo-Sonic II" / Pat.2,573,254 3,143,028". Four-bolt 'F' style neckplate with serial number "107031" stamped between the top two screws. Single 'butterfly' string tree. Two plain-top Bakelite covered pickups with gray bottoms and balanced outputs of 5.37k and 5.68k (dated on underside in pencil "1-4-66".The neck is stamped in black "8 NOV 65B". Three layer mother of pearl over black/white plastic pickguard with twelve screws. Two controls (one volume, one tone) plus two three-way pickup selector switches. Black plastic 'Jaguar' style control knobs. One of the potentiometers is stamped "304 6542" (Stackpole, October 1965), the other has been changed for a later one - most certainly by John English. Combined bridge/tailpiece with three adjustable 'threaded' saddles. This guitar is in excellent plus (8.75) condition with a few surface chips and marks - mainly on the edges of the body. The frets have been replaced with the correct gauge fret-wire - again most certainly by John English. Housed in its original Fender gray hardshell case with black leather ends and red plush lining (9.00).

Pickup switches are off in center position and on in either end position. Having them both in the same direction engages both pu in phase. In opposite directions the give a out of phase sound.

I gotta SQUIER Duo-sonic (used) - Desert sand with anodized pick guard ... "She's a beauty!" - sounds great, has it's own character ... just the two cheesy plastic covered pickups and a 3 position switch - short scale neck ... bends like crazy, love it!
@ceruleanstone
@ceruleanstone 12 жыл бұрын
@1991stratplus ...It's like this: each pickup has its own 3-way switch. The 3 positions are ON+ / OFF / ON-, where + and - indicate the polarity of that pickup. If only one pickup is ON, then polarity makes no difference: ON+ and ON- sound the same. If both pickups are ON, then matching polarity (both ON+ or both ON-) gives a normal "in phase" sound, and non-matching polarity (one ON+ and the other ON-) gives the thinner "out of phase" sound. Also, check the diagram I made.

dunno if anybody has already corrected him, but yeah the switches are individual pick up selectors and phase selectors, the one closest to the bridge is the bridge pick up, and on in phase off out of phase, the switch closest to the neck is the same but for the neck pick up

afaik, each switch controls the pickup beneath it. centre is off, and either side is on, in a different polarity for each side, so that you can switch both pickups on out of phase if you like.

Maybe this is what the switches do: jag-stang.c**/faq/mustang/switches-on-the-mustang/ Sure that is a pickup selector? Maybe, just maybe, thats a switch for the neck pickup and the other is a switch for the bridge/treble pickup. Or this is just for a Mustang and not for a DuoSonic, I don't know... I think Phil should have seen how the switches really work before shooting the video. But hey good job anyways and thanks for playing to us this guitar and thanks to Tomo too!

@1991stratplus No. Most people (including Phil, apparently) get confused because they expect one switch to be a 3 way pickup switch and the other switch to be a phase switch, but that's not how it works with the Mustang and Duo Sonic. I'll explain...

Standard duo sonic wiring had each pickup to each switch. Three position switches allowed both pickups in phase or out of phase. But given what I heard with you switching positions, pulling the pickguard/pickup assembly off would be required to see what is inside. It is a "Mysterysonic".
