You made me smile. I worked in Philly at Broad and Chestnut for 23 years. Now I'm old as dirt. But this was a fun ride. And it's just exactly what it is. Whackadoo cars parked in the middle but think that the middle lane was for parking. Oh God...love it.

I understand. I moved out of the area to come back to central Florida to take care of my mom in 2005. I worked downtown at a large center city law firm for 2O+ years. So this is a fun drive. We had an apartment (well, the bottom floor row house in South Philly at 2nd a d Federal for about two years before we moved out some .. But I remember we were so poor that we would walk the 6 blocks to South Street to go to the $1 movie theater and grab a $3 pizza. Joy! And every Saturday at midnight tons of the the young people would dress up as characters for the Rocky Horror Picture The whole area just had a vibe that couldn't be re-created now... we brought back a lot of interesting memories. We will talk about the weirdos. They were everywhere. That was also an integral part of the fun memories. Thanks.

Philadelphia is a walk/bike friendly city. I live in a much smaller city (population around 40,000) about and hour and a half west of Philly and haven't owned a car for 12 years. I walk/bike everywhere I need to go. If I need a car for whatever reason I'll rent one. It is so much cheaper than paying for a car payment, insurance, gas, etc each month. I have saved so much money by doing this.

This was great. Loved seeing PAFA again. I used to go there every weekend for classes. The art scene is great in Philly, but I am in Providence RI now and I have to admit that Providence is far, far more amenable to the visual arts, perhaps only because it is so much easier to get around and find people. Having RISD here doesn't hurt either. Providence is a Goldilocks city. Not too big, not too small, just about right.

You never lived in Philly, so stop lying.

@Frick Matic And Broad st, runs from South Philly to North Philly. In South Philly, we will say up North Philly. There's no such thing we call Philly up town. A couple things I was thinking about while in Philly. 1) Camden New Jersey, for whatever reasons, has had its share of challenges in the past regarding safety. It is right across the river in close proximity. Good news is, Camden is improving! ? 2) In the same building as the Liberty Bell, there is a life size replica of Rocky! In a way, this famous boxer is almost a mascot of the city and speaks to the strong nature of the city. All this in a city instrumental in creating a new society focused on the importance of the individual. Its a remarkable city! Glad you enjoy the videos! Love the conversation :)
@kongfeh6 жыл бұрын
@@jutah True, had forgotten that Camden is near! Camden has always had one of the highest crime rates in the US, if I remember correctly? Would you say that crime in the US is decreasing overall or has simply shifted to other areas / cities? Or is the nature of crime changing (cybercrime / terror / hate crimes, etc.)? I was never aware that Philadelphia is such a big city: 0
@ShellymanStudios6 жыл бұрын
What about NYC? They are way more police in that area.
@kongfeh6 жыл бұрын
That's true, of course, but I deliberately did not include nyc in the comparison, as this is a really massive city with massive traffic where, just for the sake of maintaining traffic, you need a lot of police. These do not provide normal patrols. I think these vehicles are marked with NYC traffic and the police wear safety vests. If you count them all away, it's not so much police for such a megacity.

Driving north starting at the four minute mark, there is a nice view on the right of the brand new Philadelphia Convention Center on Broad Street where most of the city's events takes place which makes Philly worth visiting; the annual Auto Show, Flower Show, Wizard World Comic Con, Boat Show, Golf Show, and many other events. Its big but not too BIG, theres a lot to do but not too much where it becomes overwhelming for tourists, the weather is very mild(although it can get pretty cold in the winter), there's lots of skyscrapers but not many, the food is amazing, its relatively cheap compared to other major cities in the U.S., and probably the best thing about Philadaphia is its Location. So even if you think Philadaphia is a complete Shithole and would never want to step foot in the Damn place, you're less then 3 hours away from all of NYC, Atlantic City, Baltimore, Washington D.C.,etc.... . @@zachr4526 lol I don't need to visit. I grew up there, unfortunately.
