I thought they swung for upside. Took quite a few toolsy/raw players. Either gonna pay off massively or be a disastrous draft to look back on.

Purely a guess but I felt they took guys they feel will fill out the lineup after Luchanko because next yr in what's supposed to be a better draft they should have six top 45 picks which could be a major addition of talent to the pipeline.

I called the Jett pick as soon as Button made his list in May. Speed, hockey IQ, and great athleticism. Considering the apples he puts up on the PP, they probably see him as a guy who can setup Michkov. It will be like the Giroux pick, when everyone was sour and bitter at the moment, and then in a few years we forget about not taking Sanguinetti. With the rest, I do like Powell probably the second most from the list. Gill....meh. I mean I feel like we already have a better version in Hunter. At the end of the day, this draft was mediocre as a whole, and if the strategy is to push the chips in for 2025....I'm all there for it.

Buium aside, what's your opinion on the Flyers taking Luchanko over Helenius as they are both centers?

Started with one of the weaker drafts, interesting. I think you were very generous with a 2C with how much of a reach Jett is.

How much of a reach is it actually in a mediocre draft? Even button had him at 12 in May. If they wanted a centre, it was really either him or Helenius at that point. I don't think the separation there is huge, and Helenius is a safer pick, but I think they see Jett might have more offensive upside when hes actually on a roster that isn't just him carrying the team. Both guys in my eyes are 2C's.

Why is there a ‘negative’ stigma regarding size? Seems like a bunch of these amateur scouts value other attributes over size

There's no negative stigma surrounding size. The stigma is when scouts pick size over skill and translatable traits

The principle issue is how much the size of a player is weighed relative to current ability to perform. On many occasions teams appear to take lanky players who are further behind their cohort in ability and output in the hopes that as they age and get heavier, they'll be able to carve a role. The fallacy to me is that this ignores the development of the players that are ahead of them, and that in hockey, while size is a factor, it's no guarantee of anything whatsoever.
