This is my city and I think this is the BEST travel video on KZbin about Philadelphia. It is very well organized and beautifully photographed. It gives you an authentic feeling for this world class city. There are a few minor historical errors, however .... 0:29 the city was first officially founded by William Penn in Oct. 27, 1683. not 1701 .... 6:39 this place, however was first settled by the Swedes in 1638 as part of the colony of Nya Sverige (New Sweden) before it was taken over by the Dutch so you see European settlers were here two generations or almost 50 years before William Penn. It is Logan Circle, not Logan "Square" 9:44. Sorry to be nitpicky, but I was a member of the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides for several years. Otherwise it was a great video. Too bad they didn't include the famous Art Museum, the Rodin Museum, and Fairmount Park.

Yes!! The Swedes were here first... in Southeast PA, South Jersey, and Delaware. Thanks for bringing that up.

Logan Square was one of the Cities five original squares designated by William Penn, it became Logan Circle, after the addition of the Swan Fountain. Center Square which was the largest of the original five Squares, is currently the site of City Hall.

It turns out that Philadelphia is a beautiful city, clean and tidy & there are no homeless people in the city center. It looks comfortable, safe & calm. Compared to other big cities in America which are dirty & filled with tents of homeless people everywhere. Not as scary as what is reported about drugs & human zombies. hanging around, I think Philadelphia is much better. I like this city.
@yvonneplant9434 Жыл бұрын
Wildly Philadelphia is the poorest of the 10 largest cities but it does not have tent cities. There are homeless in Center City but they're not as obvious as they are in LA or San Diego. There is the awful drug situation in the Kensington section. But any visiter can avoid that completely.

Philly was founded by William Penn Jr. in 1682, not 1701. 1701 was the year William Penn migrated back to England. Before he left he produced The Charter of privileges which codified the rights to free exercise in religion to ALL in the Colony. As long as you weren’t an atheist. The city was not established in 1701.

Since you mentioned New Yorkers, I just have to say, New Yorkers have absolutely RUINED all that was good about Philly. It lost most of its charm, and all of it's affordability. There are New Yorkers who have moved to Philly, kept their jobs in NYC and commute daily!! That's a 2 hour commute for those who don't know. Philadelphians don't get paid what New Yorkers do, so true Philadelphians are getting priced out of their own neighborhoods and some had to leave the city completely because of NYC folks.
