Am I upset they passed on Buium? Yes, but of the Fs left I liked Luchanko a lot. Picked up a 3rd & then got a 1st next yr in a better class. Gives them three 1sts, three 2nds, two 3rds next yr.

Some fan bases are far more demanding than others. Our crowd is ridiculously whiny at times, and I think thats why we had championship drougts (all sports) for a while, before the phillies in 08, not just the orange). The problem is that there was a better center available. Buffalo picked him right away after us. Luchenko doesn’t even look like he wants to play here. Danny has been saying best player available and then does this that’s why I’m pissed about this pick. To me it looks like he’s trying to be safe which is stupid.

@@sirfish9824 I respect what you are saying, but watch the draft interview with Luchanko! He's a 17 year old as composed as a 40 year old captain. He's a pretty fierce competitor according to the rankings. He values his consistency, gym routine, speed, hockey IQ. Centers need to be work horses (I know because I was one!). Other teams were grumbling over the flyers snatching him sooner than later :D I love the move, not like it! Danny managed to steal a 3rd round pick in the process. Go Flyers, stay positive, the future is looking bright.

I’m glad they took Luchanko over Helenius. To me Helenius is more NHL ready and safer, but Luchanko has more special traits. IMO

Luchanko was top 5 in 6 of 10 on ice drills as well as other physical drills (from what I read) so he’s definitely gonna be athletic enough. Also his speed is elite so he at least has an elite quality.

i was very skeptical of the pick initially, but i’ve warmed up to it. i really wanted dickinson or buium because i think it would have been smart to have targeted a #1 D in this draft and a center/centers next year. luchanko seems like a fantastic player and im very excited to see him in philly.

They took a big swing which I love. It's not nearly the reach people are thinking. Maybe he'd be there at 16? 17? Wheeler said there were 2 teams in the teens that wanted him. People are disappointed with not getting Buium and that's understandable. I'll just say that there were several other teams who went against the consensus with their picks on defensemen and thats why he slid. There's something teams noticed that made that happen.

No, he wouldn't. There were at least two teams that were in the teens that said they had him locked and loaded and the Flyers snagging him was a big surprise. While, like the vast majority of fans, I don't have much scouting experience... I do have a lot of resources for people who have a lot of experience scouting. And most say that he has several qualities that cannot be taught that are top of the class of this draft, including speed and hockey IQ. Overall, he is a quality pick at 13 in a weak draft class. The Flyers talked about being short on quality centers in their system, but what they are really missing is top notch playmaking and top notch goal scorers. They have plenty of young defensemen already, and a few more in the system. They have a ton of 200 foot players. So another area he fits a need is his playmaking ability, with his speed and hockey IQ he will be a definite playmaking center.

I know he regrets not giving up what CBJ wanted for Demidov but we can’t dwell on it we’re stocked for next 2 years on draft picks. But the talent might not be as good as these past 2 years only time will tell. 2026 it sounds like Gavin McKenna the guy to move heaven and hell for. We’ll see.

This was an underwhelming first round for the Flyers at first glance. It seems they weren't excited about anyone left to them by 12 after not being able to trade up. I am optimistic about Jett, especially because he is definitively a center. But punting the Florida first round to next year is a bit demoralizing. They are definitely committed to the rebuild with this move, but how long are they intending to drag it out? They better start moving pieces like Konecny if this is their timeline.

Gauthier was a HUGE loss with a very underwhelming return imho. Luchanko looks like a solid undersized two-way 3C. I see German Rubstov 2.0 with some speed. High floor low ceiling like every other player on our tram right now.🤷‍♂️ So if these drafts are THAT important to The Flyers then wtf? This team needs a LEGIT FUTURE 1C with ELITE scoring or play driving potential. Why no Rutger McGroarty from Winnipeg? Why no Trevor Zegras? Why no Shane Pinto? Or Why no Martin Necas? Or Draisetl?
