you should do an updated version of this list. the pennpursuit4 reels now have sealed bearings as well as other improvements. i am lucky enough to have found a source of new 2500,4000 and 6000 penn pursuit4 reels for CHEAP. I PAY $30 FOR THE 4000 AND $40 FOR THE 6000. i have been converting a lot of my reels over to penn from shakespeare which i have been using for decades.

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Got my Slammer 3 yesterday via online clearance sale, to add to my Penn collection (which dates back to the '60s). Very nice and well made but I am a bit disappointed that the drag won't loosen up more. My older & abused Spinfisher V almost feels like a superior drag system, since I can set it at almost zero resistance, unlike the Slammer III. I am told Slammer lV solved this. Wishing now I spent the extra $.

I had this same issue. My fierce lll 5000 drag can loosen to whatever I want. However, when I just got a spinfisher Vl 4500 I found that the drag only goes so loose. The spinfisher’s overall construction and water resistance is a upgrade, but I feel the fierce has smoother and more variety of drag resistance. The fierce feels like each drag click tightens a gram and the spinfisher feels like each click tightens a 1/2 oz 😅. I wish they made this more clear on amazon/penn’s website.

On my 6000s I never use anything less than 40 lb braid, I just prefer that extra edge for if I hook a bull red like 45-50 inch or a shark

Penn pursuit reels are very good I have a 6000 8000 a couple of daiwa BG 30 and a 60 lod style very good also loved the video thanks 🐟

Nice line up as I’m just getting into surf fishing. I currently have the Bg 4000 for my first setup. But after much research my next will be the spinfisher-probably in the 4500 size. Thanks for sharing

I liked the video, but I want to point out something. Everyone always compares a 6000 saragosa to a 6500 slammer. The 10000 size saragosa is more of an equal comparison for size, weight, and capacity. I have a van staal VSX 200 bail-less but was thinking of a VR150 (and leaving the bail on for wind). I am in the market to also try the slammer and a new gosa.

Agreed, I prefer sealed reels as well but those just starting out probably want something more budget friendly, then can upgrade later.

@@jacojonker4312 Actually they are rated and regarded pretty close. Slammer uses conventional seals. Saragoosa use water repelling grease. Big difference is drag system. The Penn Dura Drag system is much better than the saragoosa. For record I have both plus van Staal and a stella. Slammer stands up. In fact the extreme kayak lodge in Panama where we are fishing next year recommends them and the saragoosa for the reels to bring. This is to chase 50 to 100 lb rooster fish and cubera snappers

Help please,,, i want to fish for seabass off the cliffs, they are usually 2,5kg... I have to reel them up a cliff 100 meters. I googled all day, 'strongest reel' etc tec. Can't get any results. Does anyone know which is the best fixed spool reel for reeling up fish out of water up cliffs? Ideally around 485 - 500grams to match my rod. Thank You in advance Guy's.

@@SaltSquatch Great video and thanks for the reply. My coworker and friend is retiring and I wanted to buy him a high end reel for surf fishing SoCal halibut. Stella was the first to come to mind then Vanstaal was recommended. Daiwa released a new reel that also looked really nice. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.

No way the pursuit made top 10 even with the price that reel is trash I've had small size regular size Jack crevelles and other medium-sized fish hit my line and give me a run for my money and the ball bearings and inside of that pursuit buckles every time even as a beginner I would not offer anyone to buy that reel I would have made the pen fierce the number 10 spot over that pursuit pure garbage

Saragosa and van staal is the way to go. Will never touch Penn reels unless it a conventional. Penn spinners are junk. They don't last or take any abuse. I seen more fail than shimano. But tsunamis reel is okay but feels too cheaply made. Diawa is good too.
