From the same studio Who's Next 1971 album + the same Live studio show 1978 comes the popular streaming song BABA O'RILEY. On both songs the guitarists Pete and John experimented with synthis, hence the then revolutionary sound. Coincidentally, the 1st Swiss radio station broadcast a short cultural interpretation of the first hit of the Who MY GENERATION at 3:30 p.m. today. In short: the youth of the 1960s were looking for their place in a society that was heavily influenced by the war and post-war generation: "You can be glad that we...". Apparently it was also the first pop/rock song with a short bass solo. According to a BBC interview, Pete Townshend was apparently inspired by Mose Allison's Young Man Blues. A cover 5:43 of this and My Generation 7:45 The Who played at the Isle Of Wight 1970 concert (good videos). In my opinion The Who inspired many later rock bands and were also role models for the punk movement with their socially critical lyrics. Good next week!!!

I remember being surprised when my high school English teacher told me he enjoyed The Who! Their energy and Townshend's writing create another beast altogether. Tommy may be their most popular rock opera but Quadrophenia(sp?) is amazing! 😽💋🎶

A brief history of The Who. They started out as a teenage rock band in the 1960s. Known for their rebellious behavior and destructive activity on stage. In The Who, you have... One of the greatest male vocalists and frontman in Rodger daltrey. one of the most important lyricists of his generation as well as a great musician in Pete Townsend. The greatest bass guitarist in Rock history in John Entwistle! One of the top 10 drummers in history in Keith Moon! A wild style of drumming and life. He died tragically way too soon! They're live performances are legendary. I saw them live in 1982 in New York. Also known as one of the loudest bands of all time!

A Les Paul has a straight through neck, giving it gtreat strength. A bolt-on neck as on a Fender would have separated from the body.

Keith Moon was one of the great rock drummers and Pete is a great guitarist and great guitar smasher!. Roger used to say that when Keith started playing it was like a jet engine starting up! Known as "Moon the Loon" very sadly Keith died way too young in 1978 aged only 32. The Who were a truly great and very loud live band and it's really good to see you playing them live. I would really like to see what you think of their performance at a concert they did in 1970 in a field which I was at, they came on at 2am and did a truly brilliant performance, I think the entire audience was stoned and this song was just mind-blowing (if there were any minds left unblown!). The Isle of Wight, 1970, this is "Young Man's Blues", how rock music should be played. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2rFoHmwnbqJfZY

Listening to THE WHO live is a whole different experience. They have many great songs and albums, but my favorite is Live at Leeds. The raw power and energy from them is unmatched. My Generation, Young Man Blues, Amazing Journey/Sparks, Magic Bus and many more are straight up bangers.

As The Who performed and recorded this performance at Shepperton Studios, in the studio next door, parts of the movie "Alien" were being filmed. The cast and crew of Alien took a break and went to watch The Who's performance that day. They liked the laser show at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again so much, the borrowed the laser equipment from The Who and used it in the film. So next time you watch "Alien", keep an eye out for the lasers from The Who.

Pete Townshend and The Who wrote and recorded the first Rock Opera, Tommy, where the whole album tells one story integrated through all the songs. It is an iconic album made into a movie with the roles played and sung by some legends of the industry. Tina Turner plays Gypsy, The Acid Queen. Elton John plays the Pinball Wizard, Eric Clapton plays the Preacher. Daltry of course is Tommy and Keith Moon is Uncle Ernie (as if anyone else could). That album, Quadrophenia and Who's Next are their masterpieces with Who's Next being one of the 10 greatest rock albums ever recorded.
