How To Look For Behavioral Patterns And What Self-Pity Tells Us About People: The Behavior Panel (Part 2)
Dr. Phil continues his discussion with The Behavior Panel: body language and behavioral authorities, Scott Rouse, Greg Hartley, Mark Bowden, and Chase Hughes in part two of one of his favorite episodes of the Phil in the Blanks podcast. Together, they discuss how to look for behavioral patterns, what self-pity can reveal about a person, and the necessity to tune in to those around you.

PLEASE do more episodes with The Behavior Panel!! I learned so much from all five of you that I hadn’t heard before. After years of listening to the “fab 4” and even after DECADES of watching Dr Phil, I heard NEW ideas, information, tips, and advice that’ve never been mentioned on his (or their) show. Different situations bring out different information that might not otherwise have been mentioned elsewhere. The interviews with this panel were SO educational.

These guys are a blessing! You guys were talking about critical thinking. My son’s high school had a day where the students picked a career or a job, and all the things that make up a future. They would learn if they could afford certain things according to their careers and families. It is such a good seed to plant. Dawgs are my favorite people. Training them can be difficult if their master’s emotions are all over the place. Scott you are so right about the woman’s intuition. My great aunt and grandmother had that insanely intuitive soul. I am actually, happy and thankful God have that trait to me. Dr. Phil my husband is a veteran but even before he went into the military he as situationally aware. I was hyper aware when my son was small. You guys bring up so much good stuff.

I always visually scan my surroundings, and listen for dangers. Especially when I have my family with me. I’ve recently learned. I get anxiety if I don’t sit in a spot at a restaurant where I can’t see the door or everybody as much as possible. But still listen to oddities. Or if People getting verbally volatile. For instance, I was walking with my kids on a bike trail. Saw a gentleman riding a bicycle on a bridge fairly far from us swinging a bat and cursing. He took a turn towards where my daughter was passing the bike path. This gentleman is clearly dealing with some psychosis drug induced, probably homeless man. I had told my daughter to get back over and stand by me. She didn’t understand but once the guy passed, they realized I noticed a threat minutes before we crossed paths. I prepared myself for defensive posture. Nothing happened. I grew up in a very violent household, alcoholic, abusive parents. And learned how to listen and read people . If they were a threat to me. Learn how to walk light footed, so I am not heard walking through the house. My ability to pick up small behaviors to protect myself, has helped me many times in my life. Be

I am so glad that the whole panel addressed situational awareness. The world is getting ever more dangerous, especially with the lack of true human connection due to social media proliferation and covid19. I recently read Gavin deBecker’s The Gift of Fear. I recommended it to my stepmom. She immediately bought 8 copies, sending them to every female family member. Too often we ignore that inner warning alarm, often with fatal consequences. Thanks for addressing our need to be truly present in our lives.

i could comment on every aspect of this video and i do really like it all and think that it is all valuable.. i grew up with a lot of dysfunction around me.. when i sponsor people or work with fellow travelers i talk about experience.. the positive attributes and negative attributes of myself or you could say my strengths and weaknesses are actual experiences rather than the dysfunctional environment telling me so.. an example would be that i got an A in accelerated chemistry even when my "friend" said that i could fail the final and still pass the class.. all i have to do is look at my success through diversity..

Hello Chase Hughes, you often mention female intuition. What makes it different from intuition in males? Does the testosterone somehow block it? What would happen in the case of transgender people, for instance? Would the intuition change once they begin hormonal therapy? Would it become less in trans men and more in trans women, or would it only become less in trans men and not change in trans women (because they're born male already)? Strange question, maybe, but I'm curious.

the hero's journey reference goes to Joseph Cambell, not Kafka. As for how we come to believe our unconscious or programmed narrative (ie self-pity) goes back to Jung. The 'voice in one's head' can't just be erased with logic, it's root is in the body, which Jung described as charged clusters of history. The body holds the score, it 'remembers' and our narrative arises from the body. This is described in the Upanishads and Yoga Sutras, how this predicament can be resolved through the observer effect, or witness. This witness is something our culture lacks paradigm.

I think these instinctual responses are only applicable to neurotypical people. You’d have to adjust your response/tactics for people that are neurodivergent I’d imagine. Someone that has autism, adhd, or sensory processing disorder might fidget due to stimming or agitation. Someone with a cluster b personality disorder may respond completely differently to a neurotypical person when it comes to nerves, eye gaze, facial expressions. So many other examples but you get the idea.
