I had the pleasure of seeing her play Mozart's Concerto No. 5 on Sunday afternoon and was blown away by her talent. What a wonderfully talented young lady.

I guess that must have been Detroit. I don't care for Mozart but she plays the Beethoven violinconcerto also wonderful, so she is already at home in all fields of the violin.

Yes, it was at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. Funny, I don't care much for Beethoven, but I love Mozart. :)

Iris Hanlin In my case it was determined by my environment. My parents loved Beethoven and Sunday I will see Night at the bare mountain by Mussorgski in Amsterdam just because it was my fathers favorite piece. Normally I only care for Early Music and modern Glass & Pärt. Environment and influences in the youth can be pretty strong I guess.

Just found this recording. I was there at the Concertgebouw; it was one of those rare occasions when the performers put a spell on the full audience. It was a shared experience: something extraordinary was happening just before us. Very moving.

I regretted it so much I booked the balcony for a good view of all the percussion instruments in action while normally I am always in seat 20 or 21 row 7 for the soloists. I guess from that spot the magic of the violin would even been greater. Karen Gomyo dominated with her Stradivarius the entire orchestra. Yes you are right, I was moved too. Don't miss the link to the entire violinconcerto (all three parts) on Podium starting halfway the broadcasting. . .

In the interview they are talking about "Olympic conditions" because at the same time there were the Olympic Winter Games. After a few months it does not make that much of sense anymore but the interview in itself is great.

I have bought my ticket for the Violin Concerto #1 by Glass performed by soloist Karen Gomyo once more for January 2017 in the city of Utrecht, in the Netherlands! Front row in the middle! I can hardly wait.

+Clive .L Yep almost like Prokofiev or Villa-Lobos. However you can hear he had a real good teacher in Nadia Boulanger.

+Roberto Carvalho de Magalhães subtleties you find in composers such as ravel, debussy, Schmitt, not in p . glass

There's no doubt you find subtleties in Debussy and Ravel - and in many other composers, for that matter. But there isn't only one kind of subtlety and you never find them at expected places or moments - otherwise they wouldn't be subtleties. Difference and variety are a richness for music. The ones in Philip Glass, fortunately, are of a different kind from the ones in Debussy and Ravel. Still, you have to be able to discover them.
