I first read AOAY back in 1971 and it was, still is, one of the greatest books I have ever read. Yogananda was an inspiration back then and even today. For anyone watching this video, if you haven't read AOAY by now, then please do. It will inspire you forever!

At age 16 I walked into a bookstore in Anaheim two books incongruously placed side by side. The autobiography of a yogi and “My wicked wicked ways by Errol Flynn. I bought them both. The latter set me on a wayward path for most of my life. The former has brought me moments of Devine inspiration that have in some respects redeemed me. Thank you Swamiji Yogananda. Still reading and learning from you and vivekananda age 70🙏!

Phill gives a materialistic, physical view of the events of Yogananda‘s great life! He leaves out the spiritual component which is actually the core of Yogananda’s life. It’s speaking of a saint and leaving God out of the story. Watch the movie Awake: the Life of Yogananda and read Autobiography of a Yogi to get a more complete, truly inspiring picture.

The touching part for me came as they were winding down at an hour and ten minutes, 1:10 - 1:12. Goldberg: If Yogananda could stay with his mission with all the obstacles that erupted in front of him one after another, if he could persist, if he could keep going, so can I! I even felt it while writing the book at stages when I wanted to drop the book project itself--forget this, it's too much, I'm bagging it! But I thought if Yogananda could do it, so can I. I'll stay the course on my practical dreams and ambitions. I'll keep my spiritual routine--I'll do both.

The best books to learn about Yogananda are His own autobiography and a book called "Mejda" written by Yogananda's younger brother. Both books are available from the organization He himself founded: Self Realization Fellowship, along with many other wonderful books on his amazing teachings for the modern world. The science of Kriya yoga to know God...
@alanras3705 жыл бұрын
I haven't read Mejda, but I find I've learned more about him day to day as a person by reading a book by one of his 1940s disciples called The New Path. It could be noted that Autobiography is so much about other teachers and saints with whom PY mingled that it doesn't shine too sharp a light into his own personality and way of relating to people.

Yogananda's ministry in the West lasted 32 years, the same number as the life of Adi Shakara.
@2sridhark6 жыл бұрын
Yogananda's ministry lives by the name of Ananda founded by Swamy Kriyananda, a direct disciple of Paramahamsa Yogananda. Ananda is the real torchbearer of Yogananda's teachings and have grown immensely in the past several decades to have a global reach today.
@intercept67416 жыл бұрын
It is sad that Indians also have been duped by that fraud D. Walters. Even as a T.M. only person, I can see this. SRF will thrive, while Ananda will cook in its own juice.@@2sridhark

Thank you for remembering Swamiji Kriyananda! He has served as my spiritual Grandfather- a powerful influence even from the grave... One of THE smartest things ever done was to place a camera in front of this man in the last years of his life. If you are reading this and curious- KZbin "Ask Me About Truth" Sit back and prepare to be enlightened. Now reading down, there are those who will slam Ananda and promote SRF as the resource for true learning of Paramahansa Yogananda's teaching. While I believe it was intended to "Move forward as his legacy of learned and applied yogic practices" After his death, and his direct assigned appointee in James J. Lynn (Rajarsi Janakanada) women unfortunately Sri Daya Mata and Sri Mrinalini chose divisiveness as a means to move the organization forward. While in India, in 1985 Kriyananda was stabbed in the back by these women reportedly for trying to "take center stage for the organization" He was thrown out of SRF, and while I Would have probably quit and given up, he (Kriyananda- J.Donald Walters) was SO influenced by PY that he kept at it and founded Ananda. I hope to visit there- hopefully when the tulips are in bloom, and see his place of rest- just outside of the living quarters he had there marked by a beautiful blue dome.
@intercept67416 жыл бұрын
I didn't say anything about Kriyananda (nor would I) - I merely pointed out a similarity between Sri Shakara and Yogananda. You don't begrudge anyone that observation, do you?@@BlondeOnTV

Tillerman where do you think yogananda for his money? Through the depression? Not from regular people - from the international 1% He is very Christ like - because Christ was flawed too... but He deviated from the path to become a puppet of the 1% - Christ did not - Christ didn’t obtain big lands or seek riches - he sought only to bring humanity back to being humane... Both - just like us - are part of the oneness (what dome call “God”) and equally Christ like if we choose...

I don't think Americans have any clue as to the stature of Yogananda. He is not a Yogi in the sense of a yogi talked about today. He was a God realized Master like Jesus, Buddha and others. BTW, i am convinced the question has taken some drugs before this interview!
@inquisitor46356 жыл бұрын
Jesus asserted his exclusivity above all others as THE only way to God. This conflicts with people categorizing him with other "masters" or as just another teacher. The teachings of Jesus Christ cannot be intellectually reconciled with the teachings of Buddha or yoga gurus without altering what Jesus declared or rendering him a charlatan, a fraud or a liar. Jesus spoke of himself and God in absolutes regarding mercy and severity. There is no flexibility or negotiation with this. If one does not accept this, then one is considered separate from or the anti-thesis to it.

@@inquisitor4635 I'm not sure why you used the word "intellectually" reconciled. I imagine you mean thinking carefully about what is involved leads to your conclusion. To me the real question is whether they can be spiritually reconciled. I'll leave it at that.

@@dharmayogaashram979 Maybe you could give details. I find that in most instances he was atypically clear-headed and consistent. Also, I think that anyone who comes to Earth and takes on a human body is going to experience a certain amount of normal human experiences like confusion, self-doubt, uncertainty. Yet after he became an adult there seem to be few accounts of PY having self-doubt or uncertainty.
