"Philip II (382-336 BCE) was the 18th king of Macedon. A brilliant innovator, masterful tactician and shrewd diplomat, he restored internal peace to his fractured kingdom and proceeded to carry Macedon from the periphery to the apex of Mediterranean power politics, eventually securing his dominion over all Greece. While his untimely assassination prevented him from fulfilling his plans to expand his empire through Persian territory, he paved the way for his son to become one of the greatest military leaders in history: Alexander the Great".
